I have been lurking on here for ages, checking out the cars and also peoples other projects and thought it was about time I added something. I know that in age my car is not a true retro, but its got the look in spades. I know that its a totally marmite car, but I like it (I have had two!), in fact I'm a bit obsessed. I have also had a Metro and a Mk3 Polo whilst owning them, but more on that later. I have joined the owners club forum and the american owners club forum, but sadly the technical information is pretty curse word. They also love all the stick-on chrome curse word that they do for these, which I absolutely abhor! My PT Cruiser obsession started in 2003 when I bought my first and I went down the route of engine mods and alloys and it went like this: Then this: Then sadly this: After the insurance paid out, I ummed and ahhed about getting a classic car, but I had a long drive for work down country lanes, so I decided on another PT. They don’t hold their money well, so you can get a lot of car for little money and as I already knew how they work it was a no brainer. So after much searching, I found this with only 34k after 6 years use: The 19’s were awful, horrible ride and I was constantly replacing bushes. After doing the bodykit/alloys thing with my first one, I decided that this one would be a bit different… So I got some eibach springs, VW Bora steels , some ebay hubcaps and whitewall flaps and did this: Then got some coilovers and wheel –spacers and right now it looks like this: Next on the menu is banded rear wheels and a more subtle exhaust.

I'm with pOG on this one, I've seen some truly embarrassing versions of this car, but secretly I quite like then! The darker colour definitely makes a difference and minimal chrome=good

Nice! In the past ive not been a fan of PT's but this looks great, nice and simple. Whats put me off in the past is owners tendencies to stick tat all over them. Less is more. Have I seen this in Edenbridge? If not theres one near identical that I see almost every day. Cool as.

Quite like PTs. Never used to, but my opinion softened when I had one as a hire car for doing the Pacific Coast Highway a few years back. Maybe it was the sun and sea breeze but I came back with a fresh attitude on them.
That one looks the business.
(The black one obviously, not the blue/yellow monstrosity above this post)

That looks pretty tasty!
A couple of questions if I may:
How easy are they work on - engine access etc. ? Did any of them come with a leather interior?
Cheers

Cheers Fogey Hey Fogey, They are not the easiest to work on, engine bay access is pretty limited, you have to remove the intake manifold to get at pretty much anything. Belts are a nightmare too, all the access is through the offside wheel well! But then isn't that what this hobby is all about! The Limited Edition models have leather, as well as special editions, like the Dream Cruiser and the Route 66. The Touring and GT models have velour! Cheers

Thanks dubpt - off to Autotrader/Ebay see what I can find . . . The earlier 2.0 models are the best choice, the 2.4 has worse mpg and only 1 bhp more! The 2.2 Diesel is very torquey, but only a common rail, not turbo'ed. The 2001-2003 PT's have the OBD-2 Computer, which has a learning feature which means that if you drive the car hard, it will adust the fuel/air ratios to give better performance. Coupled with an aftermarket air filter and exhaust, you cn get about 15-20 extra BHP

We did a supercharged one at Prodrive !! That was quite good fun in the end Wow, sounds good! How was it mounted to the engine? I have considered a Eaton supercharger off a Mercedes, but have been put off by the fact that it would mean either a lumpy bonnet or a cut-out in the front panel to fit! Any ideas on fitting one without would be greatly appreciated.

I´d prefer your second PT. Nice one! The only thing I would change is the hupcaps. Unless you don´t intend to drive banded steels on rear AND front, I would swap them for the flat style vw caps. Right now they stick too far out of the rim IMHO. By the way: the PT of my desire wood be like this ;D I probably will band the fronts as well, maybe an inch compared to 2 at the rear. As for that 'woody' PT, it is horrible, too much plastic chrome, bit too Family Truckster for me! If you are going to go woody on a PT, the one below is a much better example!
