With a heavy heart I have finally admitted that my estate needs to go. I bought it years ago, ran it for 2 years as my daily and had started to restore it but I bought a 4 door which is now nearly finished. I don't have the will to restore a second Amazon so it has to go - but be quick or I'll talk myself out of selling. Again. The car is a 1968 but is on a J plate as it spent its first years abroad - Jersey I was told.
Unlike most estates this car needs almost no welding. The previous owner had the following replaced - new wings and front panel, new inner wings, lower tailgate repaired, new rear arches and the lower panel behind the rear wheels. The bulkhead, floors, sills, and chassis are sound and largely original, and the car has been heavily rustproofed at some point. A rather ugly small patch has been applied in the (shotblasted) engine bay which wants tidying and the triangular panel on the inner wing between bulkhead and chassis rail wants replaced - and I genuinely believe that is the extent of the welding required on the bodyshell.
All four doors are very sound but all will require small localised repair - no lower skins or frames required. One of the rear doors will require panel beating to a few dents but the lack of rot makes it worth doing. There are 2 top tailgates - one pretty good, one not so.
The interior is in red and has 4 excellent door cards and 4 front seat sections. The rear of the rear seat has a few burst stitches and is lightly faded. There is no rooflining or floor mats.
There is a full set of new stainless bumpers (with estate rear overriders) with the car.
The engine is a single carb B18 with overdrive which ran well, although 3rd gear was noisy and the carb is now missing. The car may have had twin carbs originally as there were 2 choke cables when I got it.
There will undoubtedly be a few parts missing but I believe this is a fantastic start to an estate restoration - there are genuinely few man hours needed before prepping for paint. The car is currently a bare rolling shell so is easily loaded on your trailer.
I'd like £1500 for it, based on the condition of the shell, interior and bumpers - all the hard work really is done. I may take a part-ex - but it would have to be old (metal bumpers would be a start), unusual, and cheap - I could really use the cash to finish my other projects.
The car is in Dumfries, SW Scotland, 30 miles from the M6. Viewing is more than welcome, just email at bob.sloan@hotmail.co.uk or call 07717163232.
