For those of us at Pembrey today, the biggest eye-opener must have been the Maestro Racing.
Now stick with me on this one... they might appear a bit fuddy-duddy, but remember the MG versions were pretty pokey.
Now imagine seeing 20 of them barreling around the tight Pembrey track, doorhandle to doorhandle...
For the three of us, it was pretty much an eye-opener: it's a cheap series to enter, the cars are cheap to buy, and few mods are allowed.
If you get the chance to see any, please do: it's bloody great!

Cheap one make racing is so much better to watch then muti million pound F1. The 2CV race series was supposed to be brilliant to watch.

Aye Imp:
But according to the Maestro bloke, this is as cheap as 2CV racing - but faster!

Its amazing how some cars pass into history without even a warrant of a mention. The MG Maestro 2.0 Turbo is a much misaligned example of this.....apparently it does 0-60 in 6.7 seconds in unmodified form!
Other cars like the Renault 9/11 Turbo, Mitsubishi Tredia/Cordia Turbo's and N13 Nissan Sunny ZX are a legacy of the brief flirtation with wacking on Turbo engines on mundane cars.
I'll be looking at them in a different light and never disregard them again!
Good day out, cheers for the coffee and mini cheddars!

You don't see many Maestros now. The MG was a very underated car. Putting the engine in a Allegro would be great. The MG Allegro turbo!!

There are two Maestro turbos near where I live, a red one and a black one, both with "TURBO" graphics on the sides and everything, and a few lesser Maestros dotted around, seems they're coming back around here, besides the ex council Maestro van that sat near my old house until a couple of years ago, you never saw any. Maybe they're becoming classics or something. Either way I kind of like Maestros, and Allegros for that matter.

My friends brother used to Road Rally a 1600 MG Maestro. it did quite well, but there wasn't a roll cage in it so the doors didn't shut properly after about four events ;D My best memories of it are following the RAC Rally in it, back when that was a proper event. Sleeping in those seats in a freezing car park in Carlisle wasn't too bad, but the leaky sunroof that dripped onto our heads was! ;D

:DGood to see some Maestros being used in anger, real bumper to bumper stuff!! ;DUsually the only bumper to bumper Maestros are the ones being reversed into you by blind old gits in Tesco's car park! I too think the MG version is much under-rated: Fast as Fook but a proper 5-door. Result! :)The best looking has to be the non-turbo like this: As the Turbo version below got far too much plastic gubbins stuck to it: :oWeren't these renouned for having really bad torque-steer that tried to put you in a ditch if you weren't concentrating?! :(If only they'd made them in this shape, they could have been onto a real winner: :oProbably a good job it never tuned out like this early prototype though! U-G-L-Y on a stick!

At the mo' I think they employ partially sighted folk on equal-opportunity grounds. I mean what the hell is going on with the latest MG ZR make-over? YUK!

A bloke down the road from me used to have an absolutely mint MG Maestro and Montego as well. Shame he was about 500 years old and thus never unlocked their full potential!
Surely one of the ultimate street sleepers of our time!

AAAAAARGH!! A three door turbo would have had potential though, although I think the 5 door looks better to be honest, but your photoshop work is great!

There isn't one pleasing aspect of that prototype, hideous in automotive form. I do like the 6R4 behind it though.

Couldn't find a useable pic of the background 6R4. Will this one do instead?
