whats the legality on those things you attatch to ipods (and other personal stereos) which broadcast the music so your radio can pick it up? i heard that they were soon to become legal a while ago. iv already tried the old cassette headphone deely and my cassette player doesnt work. doh! and if i were to get sat nav (I'm lazy and cant read a map while driving) what are the odds it would get stolen? surely no one is dumb enough to steal something that knows exactly where it is in the country? can they be tracked? and to make up for OTness: todays theme is initial d!

don't think the ipod transmitters are legal as yet, but i don't think the rule is enforced with em as they only transmit about 10 feet so its not exactly pirate radio offences. just buy one
no idea about the sat nav I'm afraid, i still use a map cos I'm retro haha

get a portable sat nav... well yeah, i wasnt aware of any non portable sat navs. but my pockets arent big enough to carry my wallet, phone, keys and a sat nav with me all the time so it would need to be in the glove box. if i do get one at all. just wondered if they get stolen a lot is all. my dad advised me to wipe off any smudges they leave on the windscreen if they have the suction pads since theives then realise you probably have on in the glove box

They get stolen absolutely loads, someone in the work car park had theirs nicked, the guy jumped the wall, smashed his window out, took the satnav and accessories and jumped back out again within about 10 seconds!

What a wierd coincidence! I've been watching Initial D loads over the weekend. I'm currently on Episode 12 of Stage 4. In answer to one of your questions, yes you can track TomToms. You need another unit and possibly Bluetooth phones at both ends tho, so I'm not sure how much use the feature would be for tracking a stolen one. :-\

If you use TOMTOM buddies you could in effect track your stolen SatNAV, as it shows up your mates nav where you are. You could also your a stowed phone which is permanently on in the car, but of course then they have to rob the car

It was on the news last week that FM transmitters are going to be legal but I don't know if thats legal from last week or legal from a future date. I got one a year or two back fantastic in a house or factory but a bit poor in the car I found, but might have just been the quality of the ariel.

The FM transmitters are legal, as long as they're CE approved and don't broadcast outside the UK FM range. As for the satnav, how about a Smartphone? Loads of people at work (given I work in a techie kinda place) have these, such as Orange SPVs, O2 XDA, SonyEricsson P900 etc - basically they run the TomTom software, and you have a little Bluetooth GPS reciever which sits on your dash. Bluetooth GPS talks to the phone, tells it where you are, and phone (sat in cradle on your dash) displays it. Because it's TomTom software the display looks exactly the same, it uses the same routes, you can upload speed camera databases the same etc. Here's the best bit though..... Phone cost: Usually £0.00 on contract, even my old SPV M2000 was free and that was the uber-phone, top of the range, did everything. TomTom software: About £100, although cheaper ones are available such as Route66. Or you could try your local friendly downloadz site GPS Dongle: £40 posted from ebay normally. So you've got a nice phone which doubles up as your navigation thingie, all for £140 plus your normal monthly phone rental. PM me if you want more info to save us going way way off topic.

I've downloaded a few different Japanese subtitled versions too, and the translations aren't always the same, but both make altogether more sense then the American versions.

We have supplied a few dummy unit's for police stings etc.... Get on ebay tho for the Belkin FM Modulators for the Ipods, got one the other week for £25 inc shipping...

my Garmin has a PIN number and came with stickers for the windscreen, even if it gets stolen you cant use it unless you send it back to garmin to be unlocked, it does rely on the t leaf being able to read the warning stickers though.

Iggy... wtf you're watching the mongrelised American dubs. Much, much better in subbed Japanese bah. if i wanted to read id get a book. although in normal foreign language movies i have to have subtitles. lip synching annoys me. not so much with animated stuff. plus id rather gawp at the cars and not have to keep looking down to understand what they're saying! back on topic(well about as on topic as this thread gets...): i need an ipod fm deely that doesnt run off the cigarette lighter. my lighter works (and gets VERY hot as i found out!) but doesnt seem to power anything. i tried an ipod charger and a heater through it. nada. I'm not sure about sat nav yet. its just a thought since I'm not very well travelled and get lost easily. i don't want one built into a phone either since i hate contract phones and i quite like my current phone anyway.

My FM transmitter cost me 99p plus £5 postage from china a year or so back and runs on a single CR302 lithium battery. Its not CE marked though. Too be honest I have not used it that much recently, I just used to use it in cars if I couldnt use either my tape adapter or input jack.
