One upgrade I can recommend for the brakes are M1144 pads and braided hoses. They really gave me a superb set of stoppers in my 205 1.6 GTi, with superb bite when cold and still consistent with my mate's battering of the brakes (he managed to make the brakes (and tyres) fade big time at Spa). Going to a solidly mounted rear beam (I am not sure if you can do that according to your regs) in addition to some Bilstein B6s transformed the rear end of mine from its 'get the end out at every bend' esque suspension as Hoopsontoast here will vouch for . Great progress. Fingers crossed that beam will not be too awful to refurbish. Welshpug wrote a great guide on refurbing them (which I shall post at a later date).

i've had those pads on my fiesta with xr2 brakes and i will eventually be using them but the pagid brakes I bought are a lot cheaper which is the main thing for me at the moment. Pagid still do good brakes as far as i'm aware and I certainly won't see brake fade on any sprint/hillclimb track.
I can use any polymer material for bushes so i'll probably end up making some nylon bushes at work for all my suspension bushes.
seen the guide aswell, think I will end up buying a refurbed axle for ease to be honest, i'd be worried about making a mess

I've driven stock width and 309 beamed 205's and I'd say stick with normal width. The 309 beam seems to swap lift off oversteer for constant understeer.

To be fair, there was some evidence on 205 GTi Drivers that going for 309 arms and beam was not necessarily a wise move from the point of changing roll centres etc. . Not that it means much, but a 1.6 beam is wider than a 1.9 beam anyway (albeit not by much) thanks to its drums oddly enough!

Do the reg let you put 306 td calipers on? Had them on mine with EBC disk's and green stuff pad's, was very impresive. and still fit under 13" steelies.

Very true, but they don't help the unsprung weight (the 1.6 Bendix calipers are fairly light for what they are), and it's probably still cheaper to get M1144s . At least I noticed this when I owned both my 106 GTi and 205 GTi. Despite both of them sharing the same sized discs, the 106 offered more piston area and pad area too IIRC (and the additional weight of the brakes). The 106 was a horrible car to brake in comparison, especially after I put the M1144s into the 205 (I remember almost putting the 106 through a wall after driving the 205 for a week ).

no chance on this being original, unless you want to buy it off me and replace it with a gti/xs small update, bought this off good old ebay for a decent price (the blue is not as bright as it looks, fortunately) very snug and stupidly light, must be only 5/6kgs with the side mounts on.

if you want something more modern than the xs engine, find yourself a series 2 106 rallye lump, 1380cc and 105bhp out of the box. Good buy you have there mate very tidy rallye. S2 106 Rallye is 1596cc, the S1 Rallye was 1294cc and XSi was 1360cc. Nice project kee, you're not far from me either (Whalley).

wow didn't expect to see this here. Neil, nothing to update. I bought a 205 XS with intentions of selling this and using the money difference to plough into the XS, sadly this hasn't worked out as well as i'd hoped so the XS is on ebay as i type and i've a few quid to repay the savings account Harv, what do you drive? i'm hoping things will start kicking off over the next few weeks, probably won't race this year but we shall see. Faker, mine is for sale for £1400, not bothered about selling it so it won't go for any less, but if it does then i'll be looking for an XS or a GTI to replace it.

I've got an S2 Rallye, love it to bits! I know of a couple around here, there was a chap on your end of Blackburn who had a red-painted S2 and a couple of blue S2 Rallye's as well.

somebody from blackburn was trying to sell his 106 and mentioned buying my 205, don't think his sold though.
Theres an s2 in darwen in red running white 205 gti alloys, wouldn't mind one someday they look like decent little motors.
