I'm now trying to put a carlton 2ltr 8v engine into my chevette. i have the 1.8 manta gearbox and it wont go on the engine far enough because of the clutch and or fly wheel can i use one from another car?. also i need to put a distributor from the manta onto this engine so I'm needing to change the puley wheels to suit the different teeth that the timing belt has. can i use another set of pulley wheels and water pump pulley ?I'm stuck with the conversion at the moment help........

What distributor is on this engine at the minute? I thought the carlton one was driven off the front from the cam pulley?
Have you got any pictures

This engine? Same problem here (it still has the carlton sump on in this pic, thats why its so high...) The manta bellhousing is too shallow for the huge flywheel , so I'm looking for a manta 1.8 one to match the box. Hopefully the crank bolt spacing and flange will line up.... I'd leave the dis on the end of the cam, should just clear if you use the 90 deg cap (like in the pic.) Was hoping it would be easier being same make and all, but I'm tending towards Nightmare's pinto conversion instead. Manta bits arn't cheap, and I got loads of ford gear!

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

iv got a manta dizzy driving off the front like an old carlton/manta but I'm using a new carlton engine, so they don't quite match, this engine was like the one above so i couldnt fit it in without removing the dizzy from ther back of the engine.

iv now managed to get a carlton 1.8 waterpump so i just need the bottom pulley wheel from the round tooth timing belt type engine. a frywheel would be ideal but they are rare ill probly never find one.
