Can anyone confirm that is Kev Rooney's Consul Capri? I'm sure he'd be intereseted to see the photos if it is. Great photos! I was just able to catch the tail end of the cruise when it was still dominated by rods in the very late 80's into early nineties. I used to go down there on the tube from age around 15/16.

Hi! Oh the memories! Been enjoying lurking here a while but have not felt that I had much to contribute but this I remember! I was there on that day in this- click for a bigger view though with Woolferace slot mags on Had been my dad's old repmobile which he then bought and, at 17, it became my first drive (on his insurance). There had been something happening before this actual event but, iif memory serves, Custom Car promoted this and put a different stamp on things. making it a definite rod/custom do. Prior to this it was a random thing where people could turn up in anything. I remember a Lamborghini Espada, ex Czech Embassy Tatra, a Facel Vega that had been raced at the 'Pod, lots of rally car lookalikes, and things that were just plain weird (a Capri body dropped onto 1940's Humber staff car underpinnings- had to be seen to be believed ) The day was great, being in on something new with lot's of tasty stuff all in one place. There were some dissenters though I remember Mike 'Kerby' Kason had his loverly immaculate paintwork keyed and some bikers turned up late on looking for trouble but it all went on to be a great regular event with a fine history- Thanks for the pix

I think a lot of the interest in cruising came from American Graffiti which came out in 1976? I remember Capital Radio hijacked the cruise and played rock and roll records all night in the evenings. I went with my dad in 77ish for the first time. Then there was the massive rock and roll revival nonsense with Showaddywaddy, Shakin Stevens and the like.

J Just remembered, the Honda belonged to a bloke from the Manchester area by the name of Graham Kelsey. I remember seeing it a year or two later with the rear end jacked up. I think he had something to do with promoting Rod shows up north
