Day 3Cracking day today, although didn't get quite as far as I hoped, but still reckon it'll be ready in time for the wedding. All the welding is now complete in the boot. The chassis is bloody strong, and I think I'll now do well to bend it! Pic shows strengthening plate triangulating rear ram mount area to wheel well, then attached to the rack. That rack is never coming out! This pic was taken just before I came in for the evening. Sploshed some paint around the place just to stop the bare metal rusting. Note the mounting points for the solenoids and brackets for the battery trays. The solenoids will sit nicely hidden under the battery tray. We now have a satin black chassis/rack, graphite grey battery racks and light grey pump mount. I must have 50 half full cans of spray in the barn but not two cans the same colour. Nevermind, all this handywork will be hidden eventually anyway... The car is now on axle stands at the rear, and I think I've worked out how to mount the rear rams. On early SEC's, they have pressed steel lower wishbones, so welding on brackets is easy. This car has cast aluminium ribbed wishbones, presumably to get the unsprung mass down. At least the photos should be ore interesting tomorrow, and also the fun starts in fitting all the expensive bits! Shower, food, beer, sleep.

Day 4Just come in. 13 hours non stop today, but I think it will move tomorrow... It took some head scratching to work out how to mount the rear rams, and a further few hours to fabricate. Pleased with the result though. Here are the completed mounts before fitting: The rear wishbone with spring/damper removed, and ram fitted on it's top mount. And then mounted through the wishbone on rubber (the old spring cups) and secured using the orignal damper bolt holes. I have spread the load as much as possible, and I'm quite confident this will be perfectly strong enough. With the rear rams in place, I could jack the suspension through its full travel ensure nothing fouls. All looks fine, and the tyres are about half an inch from the inner arch on full drop. Good. Full drop. Low enough? ;D Oh yeah, it turns out I don't have all the correct fittings to hide the valve gear under the boot floor. As I really don't have time to drive into Norwich for them, it will all have to sit on top of the pumps for now. Will have to sort this after the wedding, but doesn't look too bad... Had to work this little lot out too - a "pre wired" switch box from the states! So tomorrow... First job is to run the front hoses into the boot and connect to the system. I can then start the electrics, firstly valve/pump wiring, then onto the batteries. I will then have to turn the car around to fit the front rams (barn is a little too narrow at the other end). The front suspension shouldn't take too long as it is just a case of stripping and replacing. Still a full days work though. See ya tomorrow eve then, hopefully with some great lowrider photos!

Top build up - the photo's are all saved for my future reference - hope that's OK!!! ;D If you're doing that to a Triumph 2000/2500, I'd think about new swingarms, as the originals are made of cheese Many years ago, I spun a 2000 estate, and hit the kerb, not too hard, thought I'd got away with it until I tried to pull away, much clonking, no movement, the swingarm was smashed If anyone has seen the Top Gear banger racing feature from years ago at Smallfield, you'll see me being rescued in a white Triumph after a race. That was because I tried using an old propane tank as a water header tank in the boot (not much room in the engine bay), with that much weight, it quickly trashed a swingarm. Rear rad was the way to go

Yeah - I'd read that they're brittle ......... but I've got a rear beam and swing arms from a mates E30 M3 that we replaced....... so was thinking of swapping the lot during the build up if necessary. As I can't find anyone who's slammed one before ( and because of the pther projects sitting there ) I'm loathe to creat excessive work - but can't risk it with a potential collapse! Oh well - best go bug that guy for his barn! What was the date for the R-R show again
