I have just brought this i have drove it all the way from Hull about 75 mile drives great at 40mph but when you go 42mph the steering wheel shakes bad very bad you cannot hold the steering wheel.You can see the front end bonnet wings shake.Any ideas what to check.I thought tracking,wheel bearings this is the beast thanks  |

Apart from the obvious mechanical items I would look at the wheels and tyres! A buckle will cause this, a delaminating tyre or a tyre that has water inside it! I pumped up a flat tyre that had been standing outside for a while, and when I drove it, it felt like the tyre was bouncing off the road, and it probably was! When I pulled the tyre off the rim it had about a cup of water in it  And if you think how much that would weigh compared to a 10gram balance weight....................... |

i'd go with checking tyres first, its the cheapest
to remedy if they just want balancing.
one of my VWs gets a shimmy on at 50-55 mph
but its fine at any other speed.

Had the same on the works transit. Turned out to be a blister on the inner edge of the tyre that was causing it to budge. Worse at speed to the point of being un drivable over about 35 new tyre and sorted.

I had the same problem on my Rickman and it was down to badly worn botton ball joints.
Now I've fitted new ones it's like a new car.
Good luck with sorting your problem and fantastic purchase.

Check your steering joints too.

all of the above, but try swapping tyres round ie front to back, this way you will find out any loose nuts, inner tye walls etc and then you have to get the wheels balanced, check out ALL the steering joints etc

I now no the wheels cannot be balanced.Could little air in the tyre make it shake.I have noticed that the tyre on the left front side looks like it could do with some air in it.I am going to put some in just wonder if this could be a problem.Thanks

Now sorted.I greased the king pins track rod ends.Swapped the tyres for new ones off my other truck and bingo sorted.
