1294 SIMCA 1000SR had supercharger conversion in the early 80's when the second owner decided he needed more power. It came to me a few years ago. Has standard 1294 engine with lowered compression, the original single Solex carb replaced by a Magnusson Supercharger 'sucking' through a HiF44 SU carb. Goes well, if a bit thirsty. Gives similar performance to by original twin carb 1000 Rallye 2 (will post that later) but in a different way...low down puch in place of screaming revs. Mick

Supercharged 1294 engine... retains rear mounted rad of Stanard 1000... Rallye 2 has front mounted one.

The Street Machine article appeared soon after Clive Forder, the previous owner had it converted. It was done by Auto power Services of Daventry, a long gone specialist in supercharging mainly Alfas. They did Clive this one off conversion on the SIMCA. It's still going strong after 80,000 miles, with two rebuilds on the besrings on the supercharger. I've had this car for 3 years or so. Clive decided he was getting past running about in something like this... he offered it me as i've helped him with parts for it. I'm acually older than him but haven't grown out of fast rear engined cars ... The SIMCA powered FIAT 133, the honda twin cam SIMCA 1000 and this one are all mine, the latest in 30+ Simcas We've had since the 80's. When i've time, I'll post info on the others !'ve currently got.... a genuine '75 Rallye 2, an '84 Tabot/SIMCA 1100 pickup and two SIMCA 1200S Coupes,,, one being rebuilt pretty original and the other bound for a Honda conversion. Definitely interested in the SIMCA 1000 & 1100 parts as Kev has a collection of SIMCAs over the other side of town, mostly SIMCA 1100's and MATRA Bagheeras. Let me know where you are in Sheffield and will come over, I'm in Chesterfield, not far away. The SIMCA/Dodge/Talbot 1100 vans & pickups were made for a few years after the cars and use later 1100 and earlier Horizon (4 speed) parts mick

Months of enjoyable use of the 1000SR came to an end recently. It developed alarming 'rear wheel steering' thanks to the lug on the rear subframe that mounts the semi trailing arm parting company...looks like the result of years of hidden rust. Having owned 30+ SIMCA 1000's since the 1980's, it's the first one I've had break in this way.....Speed bumps... In the past, when rebuilding 1000's from scratch, we've plated up areas on subframes that were getting thin....but they were never gone to this state. Luckily I've got a spare in the garage but subframe renewal means engine, box and loads of other bits out...hence a long job. Can't do it in the garage either as the 1200S Coupe is in bits in there already. Mick

I've always been deeply into rear engined cars. Had a number Beetles on the road then a Karmann Ghia grasstracker (fitted with a Lotus twin cam), only ever had one Imp which was to be a racer but sold it to a mate who promptly rolled it. Mid 80's onwards we've been into SIMCA 1000's in a big way. Cars above are my '75 SIMCA 1000 Rallye 2 and a modified 1000 Special....now put back to stanrad and sold. The big wings etc. are now on another 1000 which I've given a Honda twin cam transplant....See posts elsewhere on here. Mick

Sad news to hear the little gold monster needs fixing, but perhaps this means we get to see another of your cars at the meet on Monday?

The offending parts.... Subframe shown here ready to fit on my 1200S coupe. SIMCA 1000 saloon parts are identical except for slight differences in shocker & gearbox mounts on later cars. Hoping to get to work on it soon...1001 other jobs permitting Mick

The 1000SR has been sold.... but only as far as my brother..!! I fixed him up with a decent subframe from a SIMCA 1000 we scrapped. Once repaired he's putting it back to a standard N/A SIMCA 1000SR. He'll probably just give the 1294 engine a bit more poke with a single DCOE weber and manifold he's got. That means I'm keeping the Supercharger and with the head and other bits adapted to work with it ready to go on one of my other SIMCA 1000's or maybe a 1200S coupe..

In the next month or two the RHD 1200S Coupe should be back on its wheels. I have the original 50000 mile 1204 engine ready to go back in. In the garage I've also got a good 1294 short engine with a Rallye 2 cam and it will be tempting to put the Supercharger kit with the modified head on to that and use that for the coupe instead. If not, I've a good stripped out 1000 shell I'm thinking of making into a fast road/track car so that will probably be the final home for the blower. In the meantime, I've just bought a part finished 1000 with a Honda B16A1 Vtec DOHC from a CRX SiR transplanted. On checking the Honda engine, which had never been run in the car, I've spotted it's dropped a valve so, for the time being, it might go back to SIMCA power.
