Hi! Here's the thread to the car, which I introduced here: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=135410&page=1#1639636As you can see - it's very golden on the outside and very brown inside. Almost bourgeois... The seat belt bringers don't work, which is a bummer, as the seat belts are quite far behind the seat. And someone has allready tinkered with them and forgott to put on a bit of trim... A trim piece on the seat is broken and the back rest doesn't lock... The expensive headlight wipers a FUBARd and a washer nozzle is missing... And a better note; the air con doesn't work - the compressor stays on, though. And it'S allready converted to R134a - so that saves me a lot of hazzle & money if I decide to fix the aircon... And... *BLAARGH!* - old socks in the engine bay... *throws up* And the list goes on and on... The heater doesn't switch off (operated by two electronically controlled solenoids which go to 'fully open' if broken), there's a knocking from the rear suspension, the ASD (electronically controlled/locking LSD) warning light is on, the rear brakes rubb, lots of minor rust spots, signs of accident damage which need conserving, passenger power window doesn't work (retro-fitted power winders - blargh!), power steering doesn't work etc. etc. - nothing that makes the car undrivable, but all needs attention & time thrown at. First is to sort out the power steering, I'm chasing a 2nd hand pump right now. I have quite a few spare pumps - but since my Coupé has self leveling rear hydraulic suspension and the ASD diff - it has a dual-pump. A combination of power steering pump & hydraulic pump forthe suspension & diff. It's a PITA to swap, thanks to NO space to work... We'll see... Cheers, Jan

what kind of fuellage in l/100km are you getting? I hear the motor is mad smooth in 12v and is quite frugal compared to the 24 ?

I've not driven the 24V engine much, but the 12V certainly has more power below 4000RPM, whereas the 300-24V has almost none (the 3.2l is a different animal again). It sipped about 9.5-10l/100km on the first 200km and I was eager to learn how to do a kickdown. That's promising! I expect an average of 10-11l/100km. And I've sorted a LPG kit

Nice Car!
My lack of seat locking was down to a leaking release button on the drivers seat which I promptly fixed by taking the t piece out under the seat! My heaters were also stuck on hot which was just siezed valves in the duo valve on the exhaust side dead simple to fix just remove top and clean and you don't even loose water. Check the seatbelt switches under the seats for the belt butlers and if not a closed contact when the belt is removed that will be the problem! also check the bottom pin switches on the door closes. If your looking for the valve that operates the vacuum for seat locks its under your drivers side rear seat along with the window ecu. Hope this helps and sorry if you already know it.

Pleased to help! Blos Carb is just the job for LPG on these aswell much better than airflow restriction killing the HP. Is yours a cat version? I was also surprised how good on fuel these are! On a run I got around 30 MPG.

I don't know what I get - it' currently sat in Berlin and still attached to a car Yes, mine was ordered with a cat and is fitted with a Euro2 cold idle controller which cuts taxes to 220€ per year, instead of 453€. Less HP would be a bummer, but will reduce the threat to my driver's license ;D You have a 300Ce too, going by your nick?

I'm putting lpg on mine but I need to add a lambda for closed loop control so your fortunate that you have it as it will make fitting it far easier. What gas kit do you have to fit to it? I'm fitting an omvl vapouriser blos Carb and closed loop controller. Most frustrating as I have a sequential system kicking around but unfortunately no good for mechanical injection.

Oh sorry! And yes I missed your question I have a 1990 300ce which just about nothing worked on when I purchased it with a long too do list but slowly getting it into a usable state. On mine only the drivers door window worked at first in one the interference suppressor was open circuit, in the passenger door the gear on the regulator was worn so welded a new piece in. Still got to sort my sunroof out and not looking forward too it. My best moment yet was whilst fixing a car on a forecourt for a local garage a guy walked up to me and asked how much the merc was going for and having to explain that the car was mine and not for sale at said garage.

Sounds familiar ;D Well, at least my sunroof works. That's almost a reason to not buy one of these, if it doesn't... The car is a head turner; my neighbour who usually doesn't more then greet me was totaly overwhelmend and talked 10 minutes to me, what a nice car that is and how she loves the colours. ;D And we also got to talk about her Escort MkIII 2door estate, which was nice as I wanted to know more about it for a while. Maybe I can take some pictures, it'S a very lovely, patinated but cared for car. Aaaaand, I made the first, most important repair of all: New star for only 32€

Lovely car , I used to own one as a "project" car, bornit with black leather. Unfortunately I gave up to early but the interior was mouldy, high milage car and just a manual - a dead horse - I was never able to actually drive it. Good luck with your "Café au lait" - looks the shiz

Thanks! "Café au lait" - that's a fitting title ;D Which part of Sauerkraut are you from, ozboy? --- Hum - can't realy work on it right now... It rains and every possible space is occupied by my currently 3 Mercs, a Smart and the dreaded caravan... And a sh!tload of fire wood (we heat our house with wood)... Yuk.

That looks lovely, but then these are lovely motors. My 300CE hasn't put a foot wrong in the 15months I'vebeen running it, and I'm very pleased with the average 28MPG. I'm not one to be afraid to mash the pedal into the carpet for an overtake either Surprisingly sprightly for a big barge, and far and away the comfiest car I've ever had (and I have had a Jag!) Interesting point to look for on the seat backrest, as mine has stopped locking now too I'm sure she'll do you well :-D

Thanks! I quite like it too ;D And I'm still somewhat in disbelief that I realy bought that car... So, next up: some minor cosmetics. I've read somewhere that linseed oil is good for freshening up faded plastics. Well... It is! I've tried silocone spray before, but it didn't last long. The linseed oil has outlasted it allready! And after I rubbed it with linseed oil: It's black again. I think it realy should be brown, though ;D Next: wires... Blargh!! I hate wires... The car has rear speakers (had to be ordered!) and a front/rear fader. Thats 6 double-wires for speakers, one is the input to the fader, 4 are the output. I'm still scrathing my head - looks like I haveto do a little google to find out about colours an stuff, before I fry something ;D But, I can listen to the radio, I got the front speakers working at least. And the electric antenna works, but the telescope sticks and only comes out half. Probably have to replace it... Cheers, Jan

Very nice! Much like mine, except mine isn't brown inside. I rather like that colour combination! Mine is always a work in progress, the butler arms work, but the sunroof doesn't. It's also done over 200,000 miles and ideally I'd like to give the engine a new lease of life so I won't fee so guilty using the kick down Ian

Thanks! It brings a grin to my face everytime I see it. Mine has done 199k miles / 320kkm. I think the M103 is good for at least another 100k 60HP per liter capacity isn't very - erm - ambitious. Found the error; it's probably the fader that's gone... I could just extend the wires and plug the rear speakers directelyinto the radio - but I will not. I think the Becker fader is much easyer to handle
