I was perusing the live Japanese auctions this morning and came across a Datsun I haven't seen before. curse word picture but: It's a 1969 Laurel. Anybody have any pictures of similar models? Charlie

Very cute. Did they do a two door, and is the 130 Laurel coupe a coupe version or is it a later model?

They did a pretty hardtop coupe too, but none were exported. Don't think any sedans were done as a 2 door. The car owes more to Prince Motors than Nissan, as it was a Prince design before Nissan absorbed the company in the mid 60's.

I've had the pleasure of driving a mint C30 laurel and it's got to be the best Datsun from that period bar none. It rides well, goes well and handles exceptionally well. Unlike any other other Datsun apart from the FWD Cherry it had rack and pinion steering. In fact the front suspension is the same as a 240Z, the rear is the same as a 510. The engine is an OHC crossflow unit (G series)designed by price and it's a good bit more powerful than the equivelent L series.
They did only come in the two body styles, four door saloon and two door hardtop, although there are late and early versions of each which have different grilles and bumpers. I used to own the blue one but traded with jon for my 610 as I really wanted a Datsun I could use rather than a project. I already have enough of those! The blue one is the only one known of in the UK and has been for quite some time. The only other one I have ever seen was one in Meddlers scrapyard many years ago. All the bits are there to resote it, it just needs doing.

The last time I saw a B1600 pickup was in a scrapyard down Spottedlaurels neck of the woods. It was terminally rusty... I haven't seen a Mazda 1800 here for a long time. There are a handful of 160J SSS left but they are very rare now. I have one I've owned for years sat in my shed awaiting resto. What colour was the one you had? -Ed

It's certainly saveable.

Mazda in the UK said they don't list any parts.... the oldest they go back is '84... I tried them when i was after bits for mine. Hadrian do front wings, bonnets and tailgates, but not the same shape as on the one in that pic... I'm having to get some bedsides made up for mine

Wings are still available in the U.S. where they carried Ford badges. I'll look into the availability of 1800 parts when I next talk to the yanks if you want. Like I said, what I cant get I'll make body part wise.

Came across this in a scrapy last summer. Doubt whether it would still be around though. A real shame.

I severely doubt that B1600 would still be there, it was in a yard that specialises in export and it was back in 2003 that we saw it. He gets a lot of stuff packed into quite a small yard....... At this point Ed and I were walking about on a pile of flattened cars about six deep! At the bottom was a poor old C32 Laurel like my '86 one. He does get some interesting stuff there.

Shame, not only had I talked my Mrs into the idea but I'd also found 2 wings, a bonnet and 2 doors!
