Well, I was responding to an advert for a car for spares, on a club website. The chap was interested in selling it whole and someone said they wanted to come look at it, but if there was no sale for the complete car I could have the parts off it cheap, although he'd rather I came and pulled them off myself. This is a PITA as its in Northants.
So this guy goes look and he's not actually interested in buying, but, yup, its his brothers' stolen car from about 7 years ago!
Not only has the car not been bangered or exported or crushed, its actually been in the owners club since late 2000 when the vendor bought it in good faith from a bloke who lives not far from where it was stolen from! Names and addresses are being passed on to the appropriate people...
As the car was bought as a rolling shell for a track car theres never been an issue with the V5...
The "legal" owner doesn't want it back, but I think he wants to go see it (as "closure" I think) and while he's there he's going to pull the parts I want for me as its not so local to me and needs to be scrapped soon and the current "owner" doesn;t have the time to pull my parts for me.
So that looks to have worked out OK...
But it makes you wonder how many more are out there somewhere...

Its a Dodge Aspen Sports Coupe but with Plymouth Volare front panels. Not exacly a common car in the UK... Getting rare in the US as well! If you want it the price was £125 but he said I could have the whole car for £50 when I said I just wanted the back axle out of it, but it has no engine or box, a roll cage, Volare front panels and has been a drag strip warrior, so minimal interior, also I am having the back axle out of it. Needs to be gone in a week or two due to some grief between the current owner and the guy who's storing it for him. looks like... NOT the actual car!

I don't have a pic of the actual car. I am prepared to buy the car for £50 and give it to you free if you remove the rear axle for me!
I'll get you his details.

Yes, it has. Apparently very little rust in it. I know where theres a back axle suitable to replace the one I'm pulling off it for the Chrysler. I can also point the lucky new owner in the direction of a suitable engine I think. Hopefully it won;t go for scrap or bangers.

Please don't let it go for scrap, even bangers would make some use of it!
Shove a transit axle in, 2.8 it job done.

They might be CROWN ones. I can't really tell from the photos. There are various Mopar styles from that era.
If I had space the maths is very good.
The car is basically free. You can get the B body 8.75 axle off Wil for a ton, needs shafts and a diff though. Be the good basis for a big block or high power car. Or I know a guy with a C body 8.75 case he'd probably let go for £25. You'd need to narrow it though and again find some shafts I think.
Volvo 760 rear axle is strong enough for a spicey small block, some of the estate ones have an LSD in them too. Probably about the right width too. Bit of messing and thats in.
There was a 360 Mopar lump complete didn't sell on eBay a couple of weeks back with a £275 BIN.
440s and 400s are fetching good money but 383s are often available cheap and ex-truck or motorhome 413s come up regularly enbough, have heavy duty blocks and are basically the same RB lump as the car version 413, the 426 wedge and 440...
You could do a big block build on this car for cheap.
Thats what I would do.

I might have a cheap rebuilt 360 or 360 short block available soon, but would need to be mounted on a motor plate as the engine mounting lugs have snapped off the block.
Didn't know that was the story with it Alistair...
