He's talking about his over-running Mini, and a further comment about idle speed Don't want to be stating the obvious too much Alistair, but did you check that the headlight switch is the source of darkness? Only say this as I had no brake lights on the BX, as it was both my first thought was the switch, that checked out fine, turns out it was a dodgy conncector on the L/H cluster. (which then feeds the R/H cluster)

Mmmm.... and why is it our cars always let us down at this time of the year when is seems to be constantly raining & we have about 5mins worth of daylight a day My Turbo on the van has finally given up the ghost after whistling its way all through the summer/autumn Was hoping to get it through to next spring - but now it looks like i'll changing that, over the Christmas break Bye bye £400 odd quid Seems in old car ownership you need at least one back-up vehicle, some of us take this to the extreme (RatDat) So thank goodness I have the Derby - which has now been pressed into daily duties Sounds like you've just got a few teething problems alistairk - which you have under control - i'm sure you'll be smoking around reliably come next week

I'm terible with electrical faults. hate 'em. I spoke to the supplier who said its 99% defo the switch. I'd like to get one while they are still a serviced part even if its not that. If I ring in 6 months for one and get told, sorry obsolete now, then I'll be miffed...
However, as they didn't run the payment immediately and a little later today I discovered my card has been cloned my bank has now cancelled my card and they just rung to say payment has been declined and so they won't be sending it out after all...

It is for these reasons that I have just got rid of my Golf and bought a late Escort. Auto chokes are a complete ball-ache on old cars generally (and Capris and golfs in particular) and I got fed up with constantly patching up my daily driver to keep it running as it meant the Mini never got touched. So why did you buy an Escort? I can guarantee it'll be more trouble than the Golf before long. Because it was very cheap, it's got naff all miles on it, and to be honest there's not a lot to go wrong on it as it's a fairly basic spec. It's had a recent timing belt & tensioner, exhaust and cat and a service. Whereas the Golf needed a new everything and a load of bodywork.

turns out they take Paypal, and as paypal yanks the cash from my account not from my card I could pay 'em with that.
So we are back in play...

You've just reminded me of a repair I did on my Triumph 2000 throttle linkage 2 years ago , little linkage ball joint thingy broke one night,I wound up the idle speed and it pulled along at 40 in 4th until I got to some lit up area and cable tied the linkage together, its still there, once had to cable tie the Fiat 850 dynamo into place, tip: buy reuseable cable ties, life savers old cars...every trip's an adventure ;D
