Right, this is a little vauge. I know nothing about hondas so bare with me.
When i was younger, about 1994 ish i used to see a car localy. Ive always hankered after one but I'm not sure exactly what it was. I'm thinking of passing on the rocco in spring whet the insurance is due and getting something else, so thought i'd get one of these.
I'm sure it was a prelude, or accord, cant remember.
It was low (been lowered), pop up headlights i think, 2 door, small rear side windows. Very wedge shape at the front with an abrupt rear window and a horizontal boot lid, small spoiler.
The car i used to see was marbleized pearl green fading to marbled pearl purple. Sounds horrible, but in reality it was probably the best paint job ive ever seen, and ive seen a few!
Anyway, so, was it a prelude, or an accord. What year?
What they like to drive, what they cost, FWD or RWD etc etc etc. All the usual as i know nowt, but really fancy a black one ;D
thanks.

One like this? - Honda Prelude. (I adore this car, I want it!) Just been studying Preludes as they had 4 wheel steer, for a presentation I was doing on it recently. Saw one in MK, looked good!

Late 1987-1991 IIRC. Availiable as : 2.0 Si, Si and 4WS variants members.lycos.nl/hendrik/prelude/specs_old.htmHere are all the specifications.. Being a Honda, I'd guess they're pretty tough - probably rust or will have suffered with age though, so worth checking over - FWD, of course. Don't take me on this one, as I'm just hypothesising - 4WS models probably are expensive to fix but I suspect if it doesn't work, it doesn't work and it just drives like a normal one

good reliable cars, found the 2 ltr pop up light models a bit heavy on fuel but comfy and nice to drive. The Mk1 Prelude is far cheaper to run and a unusual sight these days although they do pop up on ebay rather cheap. I somersaulted my last Mk2 Prelude at about 90mph just outside peterborough and walked away with just cuts, bruises and a lovely seatbelt rash. They are very strong cars.

Hey, what we need is a club/website that covers this kind of random Japanese stuff ;D Wikipedia says 1987-91...... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Prelude#1987IIRC wasn't this the sort that LJK Setright used to have and admire deeply?

The fact it's FWD hampers it slightly from being a 'proper' drift car, at least!
As that Prelude uses a simple mechanical system, I can't see it being much extra use for drifting - at low speeds it turns the wheels in the opposite direction to the fronts, aiding turnin or manuvering, at higher speeds and smaller steering inputs they rotate to point in the same direction to keep stability. Saying that, this does help promote oversteer so could have something going for it...marginal mind.
The Nissan Skyline's system has it so that when you turn into a corner, the rears turn the other way, to aid the initial dive into the corner, then as you power out it turns them to face the other direction, again promoting oversteer to help get the best angle of attack out of the corner! Computers, eh!? ;D

I've always liked them. The first time you see a 4WS one parked up on full lock always makes you double-take!
My boss had one at a place I worked at some years ago. A mk1 with some serious rot issues. Looked gorgeous in bright red but big holes kept on appearing!

The Prelude is more of a sporty tourer than a proper sports car, I certainly haven't seen them being used as drift cars even in the Honda world where there's a growing scene of Civic drift cars (clue: involves handbraking a lot). As a tourer they're meant to be a lovely car - smooth, reliable and comfortable and no doubt can be tuned up nicely too!

Ok, so I'm after a mk1. Whats the best model to look for? I fancy a bid on the ebay one just cos its black, photo's don't help, it looks curse word! However, if its just rear arches and brakes i can live with that.

Nice choice sir i love preludes, and although it was a 4th gen i nearly bought instead of the celica, the 3rd gen is the best looking I reakon ;D Any with the 2.0 16v i'd go for, although the D16 engine is only around 140 BHP, its a nice revver i believe, and is the one to have. I used to be a regular passenger on track days with the honda revolutions club, and one of the quickest drivers there has a Gen3 16v prelude. It cost him £180 and he wipes the floor with lesser drivers in integra type r's, piglude VTEC's and the like

140 is well enough for me. It will maily be a cruiser and would get savagely slammed ;D The write up on wikipedia sounds good, i highly speced car in its time and highly regarded by the motoring press.
What would you pay for a 4WS gen 3 with rotten rear arches and shot rear brakes with 4 month test but no tax. Black, no dents and a good condition leather interior?

not much, as i think they're only worth money when in good nick- that could have changed tho.
in all honesty I have no idea of values- couple of hundred I'd say?
may be worth nipping on a honda site for info, although i know the honda revolutions one is like fort knox- you cant get in and have to pay in bullion to see inside ;D
must be a prelude club online somewhere........
