Whilst browsing the Bay a while back, me and a mate saw an E30 2 door BMW converted to a pick up. Although we are both Merc drivers and like the comfort, we both miss having a workhorse for lugging curse word to the tip. So, I thought I would pick you lot's brains for input on converting a W124 estate into a pick-up.
As far as I can tell,we won't have to mess with the mechanical side of things. We plan on using the lower part of tailgate and making a fibreglass tonneau. The cab sides will be extended to include the quarterlight glass from the rear doors.
We'll be making a roll bar with diagonals leading down to the rear suspension mounts to put some strength back in.
Re-the sunroof
As it's a steel sunroof with the mechanism running along the passenger side roof to the boot, I wondered if it would be best to just disconnect the mechanics of the sunroof before cutting the roof off or removing the sunroof completely and welding up the hole?
Any input appreciated
Cheers
Ian
P.S.
Could someone do a photoshop thingy to give an idea of what the finished article could look like?
