Not sure if this is a pea-roast so apologies if it is, I found this site to be quite interesting and really appealing to my inner nerd ;D . Its a list of number plate area codes which was used up until 1975 in the UK. I found it quite intriguing especially as I thought my 100a had spent all its life in Liverpool and it turns out it was registered only 30 miles from me in Birmingham. www.selectnumberplates.co.uk/info/two-letter-area-codes-old.phpNot much fun if you have a car registered later than '75 granted.Anyone else share an interest or am I alone? Anyway have a Westy with Rostyles on for your trouble.(which was registered in Chester ;D)

Those suffixes were used up until September 1st 2001 when the '51' plate came out.

True.
And the accuracy's debatable; eg. UN was Denbighshire until 1975-ish, and Devon thereafter.

Those suffixes were used up until September 1st 2001 when the '51' plate came out. I know what you mean but before it was swapped in 1982 the last two letters of the three at the start designated the area the vehicle was registered eg GBC662M the BC designates the car was registered in Leicester, after 1975 though the system was dropped although quite a few dealers still used it.

...after 1975 though the system was dropped although quite a few dealers still used it. DVLA will have a very different view...

Thanks V8devon,found this site too www.cvpg.co.uk/REG.pdfAnd I found this on Wikipedia In October 1974, responsibility for issuing registrations was transferred from local and regional authorities to specialist Local Vehicle Licensing Offices (LVLOs) or Vehicle Registration Offices (VROs) run by the DVLA. Most of the two-letter area codes allocated during the first scheme continued in their respective areas, albeit now indicating the nearest LVLO/VRO rather than the local or regional authority. However, the decision to streamline the allocations of these codes meant that some were transferred to new areas. For instance, the former Suffolk code CF was transferred to Reading, while the former Edinburgh code WS was re-allocated to Bristol.[22] So I will change it to Pre October 1974 Registration Codes ;D
