Hi Everybody,
Me and my mate have just bought an 87 420 SEC to take us for a weeks trip to the Alps in Feb.
I put the old bus through its MOT today and somehow it passed!
Everything on it works and it goes well but it leaks into the boot a bit under the rear screen. I know this is a problem on them, is there a straight forward fix or do I just not worry about it?
The plan is to sell it after the trip so i'm not going spend loads of money or time. Any ideas?

Good choice! ;D If you aren't gonna keep it long, I'd be tempted to stick a bead of clear silicone sealer around the rear screen. I dunno a lot about these cars so not sure what the cause of the leak is.

Hi Benzboy,
Yeah i'm don't know too much either but somehow I think they rust out below the screen. In the boot the rear bulkhead under the screen is rusty and this is where it leaks, maybe it is a drain channel that goes.
Anyway at the moment it is just a bit damp on the carpet the boot itself is totally solid

drill a wee hole in the boot floor and don't worry about it, they all do that apperently unless there minters.sounds like the perfect choice for a holiday blast round the alps ;D

Hi, Bulkhead panel below the rear screen is a coomon rotspot on sec's. An extremely involved job to repair it properly,specialist would charge over a grand to do it.  I'd go with mrsigmas hole in the boot floor and just enjoy smokin around Europe in a top brief  Nice choice!! |

Oh well!
I do like the big Mercs though. My mate has a 280SE which is very smart. Apart from the chrome arches that is but at least he didn't put them on!
