Hi folks, Time for another update, I have been having problems with a misfire in high-boost situations, intermittent but getting worse and more frequent. I suspected that the original B200 fuel pump couldn't cope with the flow needed with the turbo blowing. It was old and noisy anyway, so I upgraded to a new Bosch 044 motorsport pump. This has fixed the problem - it's now smooth and fast on boost, anywhere in the rev-range. (No photo of the 044, but it looks similar to the OE pump, same diameter - just a little longer and needs a barbed 12mm adapter at the inlet side to match up to the OE fuel supply pipe). I also decided to fit a pre-filter, to protect the new pump. The filter is light, but I didn't want it to rely solely on the fuel pipe for support, so I made a bracket to help it. The bracket is attached to the 'sprung' pump platform, so it can't pass any vibration or noise into the shell. The filter has a minimum of 5mm clearance from the brake flexi hose, but in case anything moves and wants to rub, I put some protective conduit over the flexi. (I also put some on the fuel inlet pipe, because its original mounting position comes close to the torque rod on full bump suspension travel) I decided to give the new pump a clean, strong power supply that doesn't rely on the 240s rather flaky fuse box... I fitted a relay, using the original pump wiring as the switching circuit, and with a direct power feed from the battery via an inline blade fuse. (This relay will not be squashed here - I have space under the rear seats due to my Alfa seat conversion). The timid original horn was not very safe (or in keeping with the car's new personality!) so I fitted an air horn Steve's OCD can be useful at times, he did a nice job cleaning up my engine bay! A good line-up on the street the weekend before last... ... and this weekend Richard (RAW on the UK Volvo forum) came up to de-rust his 740. The 740 is generally very solid - it's much better underneath than my 940 donor car which is 7 years newer. But it did have some localised rust that needed to be cut out - more photos will be on Richard's thread. That's all for now, more soon John

That is a very nice engine bay - always a plus to get someone willing to help you. Sent you a PM by the way - still need to see this in the metal! I could also be a willing slave to do bits and bobs - could be a good way to learn stuff for when I get my own.

Quick update... The 245 will be doing about 800 miles over the Easter weekend - Ste and I are going on a road-trip to Aberdeen to visit volvoforum.org.uk members Khe Sanh and nick_ovlov. This gave me the motivation to do some sound deadening work at the back of the car (the axle whines after driving an hour or so, and although I love the handling on polybushes, they do let more road noise into the shell through the axle linkages). It was really great working in the sun today! I used a stick-on foam pad intended for the underside of a bonnet, plus an offcut of foam underlay. I made inserts to fit under the rear foot-well carpets, a large single piece running from under the rear seat to the back of the car, and an extra layer on top under the rear seat. I love the colour-shock of the bright blue against the bright red. It reminds me of the red Martini Porsches... .... so, how about some Martini stripes on the 245?? Cheers John

Hi, another mini update I fitted my strut brace, supplied by DVS. It's a quality item, recommended. It came bare steel so I painted it. (I ordered mine without the usual powder coating, because in the future I'm planning to weld onto it to create an improved top engine mount). No photo, but I also swapped the rear Black Diamond pads for standard ones. They had a loud squeal that would not go away no matter what I tried. I'll retain them for temp fitting if I ever do a trackday. Also cleaned the car ready for it's weekend away All for now, time to go for a drink! John

Love this car, enjoy your weekend in aberdeen your not far from me Many thanks. And we did! I love the social opportunities which come from good car forums. Ste and I were invited up to Aberdeenshire to meet up with Mitch (forum user name Khe Sanh) and his wife Karen. We did an Easter weekend road trip.... we were made very welcome and had a great time... many thanks both!! Mitch and Karen's beautiful holiday cottage The garden Larson (aka boofhead) Nick, Ste, Mitch and Larson - while waiting to meet Karen before our trip to the Strathisla distillery The old 245 did over a thousand miles in the weekend. The rear suspension is not optimised yet, but even so it was comfortable, fast and reliable throughout. John

A quick update: Steve and I went to visit Chesh, a friend from the volvoforum and turbobricks, and Roger who lives near by. We went to collect more air-conditioning parts. I bought all the parts from a 265 which Max (another TB-er) has as a parts car for his 245 project. Roger saved me a lot of work by carefully removing all of the a/c compenents, and the dashboard, from the 265. He talked me through the ins and outs of 240 air-conditioning.... this is a man who really knows his stuff having worked with refrigeration in the past, and fitted a/c to two 240s. It was massively useful to be guided through the parts, electrics, gasses and alternative methods of fitting. This hour has saved me days of research, and probably mistakes on the installation - so many thanks Roger! Chesh also, very kindly, donated some new 940 condensors, so I now have a choice of 740 or 940 for my installation There's always fun things happening at Chesh's place... ... today he was fitting a new sunroof in Mark's 940 More soon! John

Hi, Today I was mocking up air con parts. The 740 condenser seems to be the best candidate. It's a good fit and I can bend the outlets enough to accommodate the pipes. I'll need to contact Roger to find out if the condenser be used either way up. And, if it has to be fitted the correct way - which is the top! I will need to get pipes made up, at least those to join the 940 compressor into the rest of the system - which a blend of 242, 265 and 740! Finally, because all these photos of parts are a bit boring, here's one Nick took, with his Saab 9000, during the trip to Mitch's. Cheers John

A quick update: The 245 had another road-trip last weekend, down to Rustington on the South Coast for a reunion of my partner's university friends. All went well, although I was ill part of the time with a chest infection. Also, I noticed that this 244 on ebay had an early front spoiler, so I made an offer and bought it today - just the spoiler! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380895261344?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648Fitting it to my car, so I can return Steve's loan spoiler. I saw a couple of interesting cars on the drive to Derby; the Chevy (I think it's a Chevy?) was close to home in Huddersfield and I had a quick chat with the driver - he says he likes 240s! All for now John

Hi I am just about to order a cable-x unit from Abbott in the US, to allow me to drive a cable speedometer from an electrical sender. This was a good excuse to test out my R-sport speedo with a cable and the electric drill! [Click for the video, and you may need to scroll down] Cheers John

That was almost flatout..... Yeah! Actually, I think the 245 will go past 130mph (208km/h) for real. We'll find out on the Autobahn in August... John
