Hey all. After being without a car since last October, I decided to buy a new motor from a lad at work. Ok it's not the most impressive Retro ever, but for £300, I can't complain! Its only a baby 1 litre, but for me, its cheaper to insure than it is to tax, which is perfect considering its only ever going to be use at weekends, and day's off. Its got a brand spanking new MOT, infact it was still on the ramp when I went to look at it, and with 61k on the clock, its near mint underneath, few small areas need a little tarting but I plan to either respray it or roller it next year. So what you think? Not bad? or total embarrassment?

I think tidy blank canvas...
Not that Retro to me, but then I'm sadly now getting on a bit (37). There are plenty of younger folk around to whom this will seem like an old retro car rather than just an old car.

There's nothing embarrasing about a £300 motor with a fresh test and mileage like that. Good work.
Which colour do you fancy? Any plans for wheels or dropping?

Tbh to me anything 90's onwards is "new" to me tbh, retro is 80's or older, but this will do. Its modern enough to play with without setting off a stupid sensor saying you farted on the seat.
Only real things I plan to do, is a set of nice wheels.... retro or modern (NOT splits) lower it slightly, and freshen it up, job done.

Cool little car imo. I'm 20 so this car is retro to me lol. You could do a lot with it if you wanted to, but my guess is that this one's going to be left alone right?

Wheels I fancy some dish, but then, I've got a softspot to the Golf mk1 snowflakes, or the ageold ats cups.
As for paint, I plan to repaint it white again, but taking the rub strips off, wider arches, colour code the bumpers, debadge the grille, and paint the roof black ready for a chequer chess board.

These actually have quite a following, you got it at a snip - check out clubpolo.co.uk and you'll find it's a pretty big club with plenty going on, and more ideas/info/help than you can imagine. They're particularly fun to drive due to their weight:solidarity ratio, and they're not badly styled so they can look great for peanuts.. There was also a coupe version.. And a 2dr saloon, though i can't think of anyone with a white one of those atm.

That's a tidy lil' Polo. Scoring anything with a years' MOT for £300 is good going these days, never mind something with only 60-odd thousand clicks under its belt.
In my eyes that's a mildly facelifted version of a car that was originally introduced in 1981, so will fit into any pigeonhole you like.
Doesn't look like it needs 'rollering'. A good session with some G3 and a mop and maybe you'll think twice about that one. But hey, 'Your Ride Your Way'.....

Someone in the past has rattled caned the odd area for some reason, bit of over spray here n there. I just want to make it fresh and tidy.
If I can get a good compressor, and a space to spray, I wouldn't mind giving doing my own spray job a crack, but rollering I can do anywhere. Plus saves me on primer etc.
But I'll try a good mop session and see what happens first.
I've signed up to Club Polo, just waiting for them to pull their finger out to accept me.

I think you did very well there, prices last year were considerably higher, they seem to have settled at about the £300-600 mark for reasonable to good ones, I would have expected you to have paid closer to £500 for this one had you not said.
Paying less than tax for insurance is pretty impressive too, I'm guessing you've managed to get classic insurance or something?

Nope. 7 years no claims, garaged etc, think claiming only 3000 miles helps.
Hadn't thought about classic insurance.

They're good little cars, I've had 4 of them, a squareback, 2 coupes and now a saloon. Club Polo and Polo3.co.uk are the sites I frequent for info and spares. Try www.facebook.com/ClubPoloUK?ref=stream if you're not getting anywhere when trying to register for Club Polo.
