Hi, yes in part. A few years ago when I used to go all the time I did pick up some real bargains. However nowadays there is generally very little in the way of car parts, there is still some tools to be found but thin on the ground. Boot sales are very opportunistic/luck and is extremely difficult to go and find a specific part on demand, whereas Ebay you can search for it. Mostly boot sales now resemble a market with all the associated tat and people trying to sell there 'collectable' set of 5 cups and 4 saucers.
So boot sale finds are immediate and a reasonably pleasant way to spend an hour or so and watch life pass by. Ebay is easy to do from the comfort of home but can be difficult logistically to get larger items home from greater distances.
My only 'beef' about Ebay is the lack of real competition from other sites.

I've only ever bought one thing from a car boot sale and that was a new handle for a Sievert blowtorch for £4, they cost around £50 these days, but they were lucky I was there as no-one else would probably want one at a car boot sale. my local one just seems to be all tat, sometimes I think people have go the car boot sale mixed up with the local rubish tip.
yesterday I went to a small local car show and got a few bargains from the autojumble stands... £7 for a new Gunson low pressure gauge, £3 for a sykes pickavant panel beating hammer, and £2 for a new old stock car badge.

I used to go quite often, its much like auto jumble but with everything (haven't been to a BS about 5 years)... I bought my first set of 3/8 Snap-on sockets from one, along with my booster box and various tools over the years. People never really knew what they had (I used to walk away with tonnes of Draper, SP, Britool, Snap-on, Mac, Blue Point, Kamasa, Halfords to name but a few tools)...
The problem I find with auction sites like eBay is the fact you have to pay postage which bumps everything up. Example take the OP's spot lights, if he won them for £3 (he might have even bid the sellers original price), he'd have to pay an extra £5 for P&P which takes it to £8.
I find myself bidding stupid amounts when you take postage into account. Contradicting myself, I bought a fuel tap repair kit and a set of brake caliper seals from eBay for under a tenner posted - it would have cost me at least £10 just for the seals if I were to buy them from a motor factor. Prices become competitive due to availability and others under cutting them which works as a bonus in some areas...

agree on all sides ebay good if you can collect within reasonable distance otherwise its fuel costs versus postal costs boot fairs are 99 per cent tat but if that 1 per cent part i can find is there then its a bonus for me working on tighter budget than previous years

On the odd occasion I do go to a boot sale I have to restrain myself, the desire to spend hours trawling through boxes of 80s Matchbox cars is just too much!

I use ' Baycrazy' A site that brings up all the local ' pick up only stuff' Shhh... don't tell everyone about it. Had some awesome computer/tech kit using this. That's my day job so I usually know someone who'll pay decent money if I resell it. Be ready for some awkward moments when you go to pick up something worth a couple of hundred quid that you only paid a tenner for.
