Hi, can any MOT experts help? whilst lying under my Allegro making up an exhaust from stuff I found in the bin and swearing a lot, I noticed that the rubber boot on one of the rear Hydragas displacers was split and hanging off - this made me swear even more. Anyway my question is; Is this an MOT failiure, or does split boots only apply to stuff with grease in it? I really hope it isn't a failiure as this could seal the fate of this tired old dog.

I don't think it would fail. I had a split boot on my riley elf (similar suspension setup?) and it was just an advisory. Or you could take it off, Cant fail if no one knows its sposed to be there

^ when was your test?
A lot of new RFRs were supposed to come in back in April and gators and boots on a lot of suspension items were among them. Saying that a lot are still not live on the system!
I really couldn't say whether or not it would fail on hydrogas boots so best bet is probably to ask an MOT tester.

It should be fine - hydragas displacers only have fails listed for deflated, damaged/deteriorated to the point of immediate failure and fouled by a moving part. (2.4 D 1), the new rules about rubber components (which IS active on the VTS and can be failed on) only applies to ball joints and inner CV boots (in addition to steering rack and outer CV boots already being a fail)
