Right, its many years since I have picked up a spanner but now needs must there is no better time to get back into it.
My girlfriends fuel pump has given up the ghost on her '95 1.0 Micra and the local garage has quoted us £240 to replace it which I think is a bit steep seeing as the car isn't worth much and she has just paid £150 to get it through the MOT last week.
I have tracked down one from a breakers for £20 quid although I have been told that it could be one of two. Any ideas how I can find that out without taking it out first?
Also any tips or pitfalls to avoid much appreciated. I have some tools and a Haynes (no laughing) How hard can it be? ;D
Muchos thanks in advance to you wisely lot.

Might have to be a Haynes manual job, that will list what pump it's got. Try your local library, they keep Haynes manuals.

Cheers Johny, I have a Haynes but only found from the scrappies today it could be one of two types. I would have thought the Haynes would just list them both but will check when I get home.

Its either going to be in the tank or out of it (possibly the 2 types?)
There is nothing complicated about fitting a fuel pump, unless it is an awkward place. Just a few fuel pipes and a (often a single) electrical feed to trigger it.

Never done any work on micras, but going from other similar year Nissans, I would have thought it would be in the tank.
If it is, depending on the location of the tank there will be probably be some form of inspection cover inside of the car which will probably require unbolting. If you are lucky you should be able to remove the pump through this if unlucky probably have to removed the wires for the pump and sender through here then drop the tank of to replace it.

Yeah, definatly check under the back seat or boot carpet for an inspection plate. I can still remember the pain i felt after spending two hours rolling around in the dirt dropping the tank on a pug 205 only to look up afterwards and see the black plastic plug in the floorpan

How about asking NISSAN PARTS DPT quoting the chassis number, If you ask nicely enough they might fax a picture of it. could be a winner ;D
