Note: No Mercedes was harmed during this experiment!
Take one 2012 Mercdes C-Class AMG Sport Coupe: Remove the wheels: Then take a 1985 Mercedes W123 230E: Fit the wheels and you get this: FAIL! Those wheels look so wrong. Even if the car was hit very hard with a stick, those wheels just don't work. I refitted the original wheels immediately and do not propose to interfere with nature again.

I hope you tried to fit the old wheels on the new one...
Would they even go over the discs?

The c class rims on the 123 are just a bit too big, but the second set up has real potential. If you're prepared to mess with ride height, tyre profiles and I think importantly on these old Mercs a bit of well needing spacing at the rear, you'll end up with some cool results. I love OEM+ modern to retro wheel fitment. I will at some point be fitting my 16" A6 rims to my B1 audi 80... And here's a pic of my E28 on later 7 series rims. Needs lowering.

If anything, the rims need to be larger (I never thought I would say that!) and a different design in addition to being hit with the stick. But on those AMG rims, it was not to be .

I agree they look turd, but I'd love to see one of these, or even better a stacklight on the floor on some 20"+ wheels.

Most old cars just don't look right on wheels with no dish, especially at the back.

Not good. But it's a brave man who admits to his mistakes. Sometimes you just gotta try these things. :-)

w123s (and earlier) look best on their original body-colour hubcaps imo.

Problem isn't the diameter, its the width. 18s with a lip would work. Old cars need dish.
