I have a jensen rear axle to go in the rover that needs brakes sorting out. The jensen stuff is frighteningly expensive so i thought i'd see what i can do to bring the cost down and bring it a bit more up to date too. I have a pair of rear calipers that are designed to take a 20mm vented disc. The discs that are a good fit are 14mm solid ( which will go fine, just means i wont get full wear out of the pads ) or 28mm vented. The 28mm vented ones don't fit in the carrier, but if i take 4mm off each side of the carrier ( where the verniers are ) It should all fit. I would have to take 4mm off the face of each pad too. Is there any reasons why it cant be done this way? There looks to be plenty of meat left on the carriers. If i file it down and radius the corners i shouldn't be adding any stress raisers?

At the risk of being a killjoy. As most of the braking is done on the front, do you really need vented discs on the rear?

I cant find any discs that are 20mm that are the right depth or fitting, only 14mm or 28mm.

The granada cosworth - think it was 91 to 95 had the right mounting pcd but is rarer and carries a premium, as do the calipers. The discs i have in mind are from a fiat scudo van. They have the right height and mounting pcd but only come in 14 and 28mm width. It looks easier to mod the caliper carriers than to mod discs to fit.

If your modding any bit of your car that has consumable parts, ie: pads and discs, you'll be much better off modding the bits that don't need replacing, nothing is as irritating as a car off the road while you wait for a custom part to be made or come through the post.
Much better to be able to get discs or pads that are stock and a direct fit.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

I wonder if an easier route would be to sell the jensen axle, and fit the axle from a 740 volvo? Rear disc brakes, limited slip diff, and you can use the ford escort axle kit's to mount it.

I did look at the volvo axle before i went down the jensen route, Something will always have to be modified if it comes from a different car, the volvo axle has different stud pattern and different track width. The jensen axle is the same track width and stud pattern as the rover and has limited slip diff. Mounting it is a bit more involved but thats half the fun - isnt it
