As I've almost finished fitting a 2.0 8v Vauxhall lump into my Viva, that I might even be turbo charging, I thought it was about time to think about upgrading the brakes. Does anyone know of any easy 'straight swaps' that will work on a HC Viva? I've heard of Princess and Capri upgrades but is there anything else that will work? Anything a bit more modern? Comments appreciated.

Wouldn't 2300 Viva parts be up to the job? Finding them is another issue though!

The bigger engines Vivas and the GLS model regardless of engine size (IIRC) havea bigger disc and corresponding larger spindle etc. The whole upright is different. It also fits onto an FD series Victor (we have used them to swap front drums on Victors 1600s to discs before) so by some logic you could fit Victor uprights and discs also to the Viva.
However these aren't easy to come by.
Your best bet is to contact Roy Sharpe or whatever his name is in Leicester who does big disc conversions for just about anything. Either that or speak to Hi Spec as they also will do "vanilla" hubs and disc combos and you spec them to your spindle and PCD requirements.

correct me if I'm wrong, but vivas are 4 x 100 pcd, so surely any cav/cally/astra 4 stud set up could go on??

If we are talking HB\HC Viva...I have this setup on my '34 Y hotrod.
A kind chap on the NSRA board sent me detailed instructions on the fitting of Escort FWD calipers and vented discs. I've not done it yet but can forward the details if you are interested..
Cheers Gerry

its not just about PCD anyway, spindle bore needs to match and thats imperial diameter too, so are the bearings. etc.
The Escort fit sounds interesting as they will allow common upgrades such as aftermarket pads and discs which are non-existant for the Viva and common for Fords...
you can redrill the hubs to 4x4" or 4x100mm as well. What rear axle are you running? Magnum or Manta?
