I hope you lot can shed some light on the problem which i have never come across in all the years of rear engined bliss.
It's a running/fuel related problem.....i think,Syptoms are:tick-over and standing still she runs like a purring kitten.Give her some throttle past 3000rpm then she lets off a pop bang
nice if you like that sort of thing but she also does not move very well and can cut out.Changed plugs,leads,points,condenser,dizzi and cap but still the same type of running.only thing not changed is coil...yet !
Snotty for all who do not know is a 1300 powered 77 Estelle (the later Rapid 136 engine) also running with a webber direct replacement carb (not sure what version).
Please help as patience is running out and more modern machinery is looking better every day

It could well be the coil or a problem with the feed to it. I would disconnect the feed to the ballast resistor strapped to the coil and temporarily add a new battery live to see if that cures it.
