Got this early NSU Prima, that has been in hibernation since 1967. Was in a proper hoarders house, like where the whole house was full of paper/cr@p piled up to the ceilings. ![](http://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/536672_454520824565046_1869679847_n.jpg) This applies to any old vehicle - should I do a full resto and lose the patina, or refurb the frame/components/underneath but keep the exterior as is. the paint is grubby but sound, with a tiny rust spiders coming through which are staining the cream paint. a good polish and plenty of wax? So.......restore or preserve? Matt

Strip out the drivetrain and restore fully, give the frame/covers a really good wash and wax

Personally I'd go the preservation route. It looks like it'd be perfectly presentable once cleaned up yet will still look totally honest and appropriate to its age. Its unlikely to deteriorate much further with decent care and the limited use it would be likely to get.

Get it running sweet but keep the "patina" every scratch and mark is genuine aged. Keep it real.

Preserve for now.
Make sure the mechanicals are good.
You can always Restore in a few years if ever.

like grizz says its easier to restore it later on if you change your mind than go back to how it looks now after restoration. I would keep it like that. not bad enough to look rubbish but that hint of patina adds character I think ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

in scooter land there are very few original scooters, as they cost curse word all to re paint and upgrade etc people never seem to keep the patina.
it would stand out more preserved rather than restored

I've had this with my triumph.... and have restored and re-built the engine, suspension, brakes and electrics whilst keeping the bodywork patina'd.
I'd always refirb the critical components.

Get it running, polish it up & attend to any areas needed to stop further deterioration. That's whats most important isn't it. Anything further can wait! Looks amazing regardless.

That is outrageously cool, deal with any major issues then keep it as it is. At least that is what I would do. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)
