hi all my brothers just bought a vauxhall firenza 2000 sl the blue one that just sold on ebay in colchester essex
does anyone know if the 2000 and 2300cc engines look alike outwardly as hes mate reckons its a 2.3 engine in it
just wondering if theres a way to tell for sure if its a 2.0 or 2.3 engine i have no idea i have a saab turbo so compared to my engine it looks tiny cheers dave

there are 3 engines that where used in the firenza that all look the same ..... 1800/2000/2300. form the out side there is no difference ............
if you look at the rear near side of the engine there is a flat spot which will have either 18/20/23 ..lc/hc stamped on it........

I'm fairly sure you could get a 1600 Firenza first year of production too... Vague recollection of someone I know having one and it being rather rare.
As said, engine stamping is the fool proof way to tell but there are some vague differences in water pumps, alternators, starters but these of course can be changed for "incorrect" ones over the years so no real indication.

Yes, first generation slant-four were 1600/2000, then updated a bit later to be 1800/2300. Outwardly very similar, generally cast with the capacity (early ones had a code, I think, rather than the actual capacity) on the engine block near the offside engine mounting and starter motor.
