For some time now I have started paying more attention to J-Tin station wagon’s/estates, especially the 70’s stuff. They have so much potential when done right . This is the stuff that inspired me to search for a wagon...
So looks like I may have found one ;D ! Its a barnfind,1 owner car that was last on the road in 2004. Extremely original and straight bodywork was put through the MOT test and came out with one advisory ! Massive win. Mileage is genuine 39k.
The service history folder is amazing. Got original bill of sale- supplied new by Howlett Bros (Datsun dealership) on 1.1.1975 for GBP 1,561.35 after taking p/ex of a Ford Anglia for GBP200 !
Some obligatory shots
Anyone know what the V sign represents ??
Factory wing mirrors
13” hubcaps
Car needs a proper valet as its dusty and well filthy...what do you expect having stood for nearly 10 years ! The clean will do it wonders..
Proper 70’s dash with faux wood panelling and blue fascia instruments...
and seats have tweed like material and vinyl surround which is embossed. And yes they too need a good clean .
The detailing flows all the way from the front door panels, to the back and even to the loading area:how cool is that?
Now a wagon wouldn’t be a wagon if the rear seats didn’t fold down to allow you to carry tat and other cool stuff.
BTCC – touring style rear mirror FTW !
It drives faultlessly and chances are that you may wonder if you were sat in a coupe. Fear not as there is a subtle reminder on the C pillar trim that this indeed is a wagon !
Body wise its remarkably solid and has had a proper restoration undertaken in 1981 where they changed the wings, cut out the crusty bits and replaced it with new metal and gave it a new coat.
Engine bay needs a steam wash and thats it !
Plan is simple.
1) 2-3” drop all round, fronts could be converted to coil over type 2.25 springs and rears are leaf sprung so its decamber/blocks.
2) 15 X 8J deep dish wheels
3) Refer to 1 & 2 above and enjoy the drive.
