We haz progress on the Hunter - spare motor now fitted ;D
The dead/dying 1725 came out easy, new one went in fine, then the fun started
New one is an Ebay bargain (maybe...), "removed from a working car 3 weeks ago" I picked it up a few months ago but it only got swapped this weekend.
I fitted the carb from the new one onto my old motor soon after I got it and that has been fine.
Score so far on new motor :
drained old oil (1/2 pint of thick goo with water in it ), new oil fitted.
sparkplugs out, spun it on starter to build oil pressure.
- no pressure so had to remove the oil filter to prime the oil system
- now has pressure, but takes a while for oil light to go out
Known good parts swapped onto new motor from the old one :
snapped oil pressure switch
dead fuelpump
sparkplugs ( 3 standard + 1 motorbike size )
replaced distrib cap & plugs leads
carb
electronic ignition to replace corroded points that weren't working
starter motor
Results :
It spins over ok, a few backfires, no attempts to start (ignition timing?)
plugs feel dry but the carb & fuelpump are from my working motor
I've fitted plenty of scrapyard motors in the past so I'm used to getting life into old doorstops, but this beastie is just not trying at all
Any top tips ?
