Exibit A: "Pathetic Motorways". A quick scout around this site leads you to a netherowrld of the Motorway spotter. Fascinating facts about road schemes never built, subsumed by other road schemes and quite obviously 99% of the sits visitors and contributors are in the road planning business. www.pathetic.org.uk/index.shtmlHowever I have discovered that the shortest motorway in the Uk is the A635(M) however this is classed as a "Secretive" motorway so probably the shortest should be considered the A64(M) in Leeds. I also discovered that there was a plan to build a motorway which would bypass Southend on Sea to the south and east... Interesting idea.... No suggestion of how this would be achieved. I did find the idea of the M45 being the quietest motorway in the UK and being unchanged (except for the barriers) since it was built in 1959 to be interesting. Also the "ghost" of the M12 was interesting. Oh dear, I'm getting drawn into it! Another strange webby is SABRE: Thats The Society for All British Road Enthusiasts. Yes, enthusiasts of the roads themselves... sabre-roads.org.uk/Check it out. A little odd, a little obsessive, but somehow it makes the world a better place that people care about renumbering of junctions and the histoprical significance of changing signage. Spot the "planning" in-jokes though... Why is this R-R? Well, partly because its oddball and secondly because you want to know some good roads, right?

M45 is THE unofficial terminal velocity testing venue ;D Quiet - check Junctions - nope (well for most of it) Policed - rarely Road Bridges overhead - Nope ;D Always a Healthy smattering of Disguised Jags/Landrovers etc Datalogged and GPS verified 167mph in a Tweaked 200sx - Is the best I know about so far ;D ;D

Just wasted at least half an hour on pathetic motorways!

If you liked those...try this. www.iht.org/motorway/The complete history of the UK Motorway network. Everything you could possibly wish to know. SWMBO has caught me engrossed in it, and handed me an anorak before now..... Brian

I hate you, I hate you, I hate you! Just spent a good hour on this brilliant site. I'd wondered why the A102M was no longer a motorway!

I'm NOT a highways designer And I like it too. Which is even odder, 'cause I've no idea what everything means. Not from around your parts after all. And I used to teach map reading( real maps that is, but these will do)
