Hi all,
This is my boss' truck but myself and Sam try to help him with its issues.
It's been imported from India, I don't think there are many in the UK. It's powered by what I am told is a single cylinder 4 stroke diesel engine linked to a sequential gearbox, and therein lies the problem.
About a year ago, the thing seized up and wouldn't go into gear (Or was stuck in gear, it was a long time ago and I forget).
So, we took the engine out and the bell housing of the gearbox off...
Above picture: Sam's pants.
A lot of metal pieces falling out of the box was a clue
It appears the speedo drive worm gear has shattered, the ball bearings that it rests on have shot out along with the springs and been munched up. We've tested the gear stack out by hand and it now engages and rotates, so hopefully we've cleared the debris out.
So, we have a broken speedo drive and I don't speak the manufacturer's language. Part of me wants to reassemble it without the speedo drive and just see what happens, but it seems to form part of the gear stack and I'm wary of putting unnecessary pressure on the other bits.
Does anyone have any experience of these? Or what might share the same gearbox? They are designed to be fixed by the side of the road, so I hope we can find a solution.
Thanks!
