just a teaser for now until I get time to sort the pics and write it up but yeah, this car is quite a big deal for me, ive actually owned it for about 3 years now. well, its that long since I agreed to buy it, it was paid for as and when as a mates deal. but it only got brought back to mine last week! it was meant to be sold more or less straight away, but even though its got more issues than your average 14 year old funeral for a friend fan, I love it and the missus loves it, so I just got to find enough cash by other means to allow me to keep it! more soon

damn you guys are good street was the first there, backed up by smellyferret(although thats a '51, same body, different trim/grille). its a '50 pontiac ive got. except its not any old '50 'yak- its got less doors than the one above. and a different roof which makes it a streamliner, not a chieftain, which is quite rare, even in the states. it is a silver streak though, which given its current condition is where the project name comes from! have another pic. spot the minor modification, which is what makes it a big deal for me....

well, where to start. its definitely been round the houses a bit this one! i bought it off my mate jay in plymouth, but he didnt chop it, i think he bought it off the guy who did. he did a lot of the making good though, some of the previous work was pretty iffy, plus he started sectioning the decklid so it lined up with the chop, it was previously untouched. id give the chop about a 6 out of 10. some bits of it are pretty good, the side profile is actually really good (except i don't like the slanted pillars, but thats more personal taste than anything really). some bits need a lot of work though, and the majority of the strengthening under the skin has been chopped out so it will need a lot of work inside. it still needs tons of work , it had to sit outside for a bit so a lot of the filler has cracked and lifted, plus theres more in it than i would like so I'm going to strip it all off and redo some of the metalwork. jay wasnt planning on building it to the standard i plan to, he was aiming for 'good n solid but with filler', I'm aiming a bit higher than that, so he can be forgiven have a couple more pics of the roof/proportions.- I'm not sure how much its chopped, somewhere around 4-5" by the looks. the fact it is chopped at all was a pretty brave move though, as its a pretty rare car. i think theres about 4 streamliners the country (assuming they're still here and havent been exported or written off), and this is the only chopped one. in fact its the only non-stock one

ive just dvla checked all the other streamliners on the pontiacs uk site- theres 8 from '49-'52 including mine. 3 are T+T and on the road- two cant be found so are likley exported, and another two are off the road since '94 and '97 respectively. mines been off the road since '94!
so yeah, quite a rare car to go hacking the roof off! plus a very hard chop to do. fleetlines/streamlines are generally accepted as being a much bigger undertaking than a conventional sedan or coupe, due to the sectioning of the decklid that is required.

HAHA Nicks old Supra is in the background!! Thought that disappeared ages ago? nah, its nicks gimpy cousins one- still under the same tree 4 years later! Awesome! Nice one dude. I love this style of roof, the beetle backs just look so classy. So.....what under/going under the hood?? well, its got the stock flathead six, which is supposed to run. not much point trying though cos its got a 18" crack down the main water jacket! its also missing half thegearbox- the entire valve body/selector unit is missing off the hydra-matic. I'm not sure whats going in yet, apparently an SBC/th350 drops in like its made for it, plus i know someone selling one. just don't have the funds at the mo. other option is ive got a spare Y-block, but it would cost just as much to stick a AOD on the back of it as it would for the SBC. WOW!!!!! Love it!! Pontiacs had by far the best badges, trim and "figureheads", and your version is by far the nicest. Another thread to bookmark cheers tony, a lot of the trim will be going though for the smooth custom look, mostly cos its too rough to rechrome!
