I've used ptfe tape on the hose tails on my fuel shut off valve. The tape has gone yellow and gooey and i have a faint smell of petrol in the boot. What petrol resistant thread sealant are you using out there??

I don't think fuel connections should need thread tape? If they're designed and tightened correctly then they should seal before the thread.

^^^ What he said
If the joint is leaking there is something wrong/damaged. Using anything like ptfe tape on a fuel/oil pipe is very bad practise as it could become dislodged and enter the fuel system and block something.
If you really need something to help it use a non setting compound such as 'Wellseal' or 'Stag'

PTFE tape should be banned...
Use new/tapered fittings or get good barbed tails and fuel spec clamps..
