Wifes car, (04 meriva 1.7cdti) broke down today, helpful chap down the road plugged his diagnostics machine in and got car to start and idle at about 500rpm, he done an injector cut off/reset on cylinder 1 and it came back to life. Then it died as I got on the driveway, pretty sure its gunked up and needs a good clean, jsut looked at replacement costs for them I've removed them all and now need somewhere to do the job or should I rewatch the youtube vid and do it myself Any recommendations?

Have a go yourselfe first mate if you can ? all you need is a way to pressurise the fuel/cleaner feed to the injector (old leccy pump or check Utube) , a 9V battery and push button switch/some wire and it pretty easy (as you say youtube have lots on it) I often clean injectors, doesn't allways work but last month I had a jag in with the usuall half a tank of water half a tank of petrol (blocked water drain in the filler resess). Came in as a non runner and after 3 hours I got 5 of 6 rusted/stuck injectors back into life using a spare EFi pump to pump injector cleaner though them, 1 would not come back to life even with hard taps to the body but I saved 5 and at £20 a pop for S/H or £30 to clean em it was a pretty good save and after a week of standing the old fuel in demijohns and syphoning off the top clean fuel I even had £40 of free petrol I ran though an old carbed engine ;D
If it's common rail i wouldn't be messing with those sorts of pressure though TBH ?

your car is common rail, don't try cleaning them yourself. you will only make them worse. panda diesel are the people you want to talk to, i have used them many times and wouldn't use anyone else now.

They are being sent out today for cleaning, spoke to a helpful chap last night. Comes recommended by the diagonstics chap who got the car running for me. £25 each for a test, sonic clean and retest.
The car ran fine on the way home on saturday and ran fine when the injectors were reset so i'm hoping they are just dirty. Guy said it shouldn't be a problem if they are he'll fix them and it will be a lot less than the £80 each (for second hand ones!!) to replace! Then he recommended a filter change and some forte cleaner in the tank to clean the rest of it up.

Injector wiring connecters can lose their grip on the pins in the injector too. Had this issue with vectra s dropping injectors . They don't suddenly become dirty as anything big enough to do it has to go through the high pressure pump first .

Its never started as quickly as you would expect it to, rencently its got worse (its the mrs car so I don't know why she didn't say anything) if she had of said something I would of run some forte through it. Before I took them off it wouldn't run at all. I'll see what they come back to me with after cleaning (cars done 158000 so its probably worthwhile anyway) then check the connectors #1 had the issue and also I'd the one behind the oilcap which was covered in oil although the connector is clean inside.
Rung up vauxhall and get a price for the return pipework as 2 plastic connectors broke off in the injectors. £52!!!!!!!!

there's not much that 200Bar of hot diesel doesn't shift..... and that's on the old mechanical Bosch pumps, the common-rail's run at an easy 300Bar
"cleaning" an injector is pretty much a false economy - if a bottle of in-tank cleaner doesn't shift it, then you need new nozzles... which then need the break pressures recalibrating (if mechanical) or re-coding to the ECU (if posh and fancy)

Third-generation common rail diesels now feature piezoelectric injectors for increased precision, with fuel pressures up to 1,800 bar/26,000 psi.

Hopefully i'll only need a correction factor for the one thats dud, then the ecu will sort it all out.
