I'll find out in about 10 or 15 minutes when I swing by the garage on my way into work.... Watch this space!!
Sodding MOT garage wasn't open at its usual 7am, so I'll just have to wait until lunchtimeish to find out now!

Well, we have a fail But it's not a bad fail - 2 bits of welding (back of one sill and one inner arch), a grumbly wheel bearing (either adjust or replace) and a new windscreen (which I figured, given the large crack in it... Might be the same as my other Chevy, so I might swap that in!). Hopefully have it ready (maybe bar the windscreen or bearing if I need to purchase either) by the end of the weekend ;D EDIT: Windscreen to be fitted next Saturday through Autoglass, should give me plenty of time to get the rest of the work done

Damn and blast. Autoglass now can't get hold of the glass, many emails have been fired off and DB Autos have been called.
If all else fails, DB Autos have one in stock for £204 +vat...

Well, I've managed to grab a couple of hours on it this afternoon to start the welding. I tried to remove the screen too, but it seems it's bonded in. Bother. Piece of wire, a couple of handles and a willing helper required there then....!! Anyway, it's all fairly straightforward stuff, and although my welding leaves a little to be desired, it'll do! You start with this slightly crusty looking tail end of the nearside sil: You then attack it with the angry spark/hole maker thus producing this: Then the snippers of tin are utilised to create a piece that fits snugly in the hole (well, tin snips, grinder, piece of heavy duty tube and a hammer....) : You then tease some blue glue around the edges to hold it in place: Moving a few inches further forwards, you notice a little bit of bubbling, which when cleaned up produce another hole: Then repeat the above procedure to produce another hole filled in: These are now coverd in waxoyl so the MOT man can see them before I fill and then paint them after the ticked is in my grubby mits. Just watching the motogp qualifying now and having a bite to eat, I'll then be out looking at the inner arch on the other side.... More later ;D

Ok, food consumed, time for more metal melting. So, jack the pert little rear end of the van up, onto axle stands and offside (which is of course the passenger side on this van! ) rear wheel is removed, along with the sidestep. Unfortunately, it means that I can now see this: Eurgh, what a mess. Still, whining about it isn't gonna put any metal back there, so it's out with the card to make a template, thusly: I then clean it up, weld a couple of backing pieces in where there is no metal and completely forget to take any photos.... No matter, I'm sure you can imagine the first photo, with much less rusty metal and a few bits of clean metal replacing them. I then transfer the paper template to some steel and cut it out, drill some holes so I can plug weld it to the good metal from the front. And hey presto, we have this!: And from the inside: But now I'm tired and don't want to weld anything I shouldn't, so I'll continue tomorrow at some point! ;D

Had a ride out on the old push bike in Sherwood Forest so didn't spend that much time on it today. Had a bit of time after tea though and now the welding is all done! Time to look at the wheel bearing tomorrow after work then!

I'm off to collect the new screen tomorrow - all the regular 'insurance approved' glass places seem to be useless, but DB Motors have come up trumps. Granted it's gonna cost me £204 +vat + fitting, but meh, I need the van to go to France in within the next 3 weeks so I don't get much choice really...
I'll also be checking my wheel bearing later tonight, so if I do need a new one, hopefully DB will have one in stock.

Took a trip down to DB Motors today, f**k me that place is cool! Full of so much Yank stuff it's unreal!
Anyways, I came away from there (in my dads Cavalier!) with my new screen, a wheelbearing, some seals, a couple of odds and sods and a pair of caliper seal kits... Wheel bearing is now fitted and I'm awaiting someone coming to fit the screen now! Not much point in photos at this point, so I'll take one when it's passed it's MOT and has been washed!!

It's been a little while, but I've mostly been driving the thing, it's awesome! Anyway, the holiday to France beckons, and 2 seats just ain't gonna cut it when there's 5 of you going.... I'm sure the kids would love sitting on the floor, but I suspect it's a tad unsafe and 'le rozzers' may take a dim view of it, so I thought I ought to get some seats in it! It came with 2 seats 'that bolt straight in mate'. Yeah, course they do... One just needed a couple of holes in the base altering and it did bolt in (that one is the captains chair by the side doors). The other one was not attached to its base, I realised that this was because it was missing one of it's runners. So I had to remove the other runner, drill a few extra holes, bolt it directly to the base, alter the base holes (as per the other side) and that one bolted in ok! So that's 4 seats, and that's all the came with the van. I need one more.... Thankfully, some years ago I was given 2 Jag half leather seats. Admittedly they don't really match the rest of the interior, but I intend to retrim and probably replace all of the seats in the future anyway! So, I had to raid the metal stock cupboard (ok, so it's sort of leant against the wall. Or it was, I don't have any left now... lol) for some box section, do some measuring, cutting, bolting and welding and hey presto, we now have 5 seats! With this done, I thought I'd give it a wash. And my new screen leaks. Bother. More sealant required!! Looks shiny now though - think I'll give it a polish before I go away! Oh, I wired my stereo in too - just need to finish making the facia and that will go in too. For 'efficient monetary reasons' the facia will be made from a cheapo chopping board!

Hey everyone, check out my wood! Looks a load better now ;D Other little tweaks include a home-made 3-bike rack which will be finished this evening and a seatbelt hanger from (possibly, I forget...) a Ford Galaxy to keep the seatbelt off my neck. And the chopping board stereo mount that you can see! Oh, a small amount of tiger seal correctly applied has fixed my leaking windscreen too. Bonus! Ready for the road.....!!

Well, it made it back from France with only a couple of minor niggles (mostly a funny transmission vibration under certain conditions....!). Too much to do at the minute to write a proper story and put pics up, but I'll get round to it after the gathering I suspect. See y'all there!
