I arrived home today after a very interesting and enjoyable week in Northern Ireland. I drove to Fleetwood with my friend Gavin in what is now Surprising Skoda's MK1 Favorit and went by ferry to visit N.I.'s premier Skoda nut!
Unfortunately the drive up north was hardly event free, and included putting out flames under the bonnet of the Favorit on the hard shoulder of the M6 at about 10pm in the pouring rain! :oThe regulator in the alternater became faulty, leading to the battery being severly overcharged! I decided to disconnect the alternater and drive on for a while to try and save the fried battery from exploding, but a few miles down the road a short while after reconnecting the alternater, the suppressor on it caught fire. I had to be a bit quick with a spanner disconnecting the battery Anyway,to cut a long story short, thanks to the AA and my sister-in-law living in Preston the car was recovered and we had a bed for the night! ;D
With a new battery and regulator fitted we made it to N.I. and we enjoyed the rest of the week playing with S.S.'s impressively large collection of Skodas and munching his mum's delicious home cooked meals! My old Favorit now belongs to S.S. and I hope he enjoys it. The car used to belong to my mum about 6 years ago. When I sold it for her it was almost immaculate...unfortunately my mum was the last person to clean it! It's been looked after mechanically though, so I reckon now the charging fault's been sorted it'll be OK.
I'll be posting some pics later.
