Just found this : www.pinktentacle.com/2006/11/dekotora-photo-galleries/Has a load of links to galleries for some of those trucks that were in the original J-car night time meet thread. Check out the video as well, apparently this program inspired people to get into Dekotora

If I saw those 3 roll up I'd get excited thinking the fair had come to town. Do they come with a special fried doughnut smell and dogs tied up with rope?

There was an article about them in an early issue of Intersection. I didn't really know what to make of them but these days I'm generally all for silly purpose-less modifications for the sake of it

not that I'd ever do that to a truck, but they are really cool. wonder if they only drive them at night, they must look a bit ass if you saw one the day after you'd seen it all illuminated at night

Dekotora culture is based on '70s Japanese movie "Truck Yarou" (Truck guy). That movie featured many decorated trucks and we used to see these kind of trucks on the street everyday. Recently Japanese police is very strict for dangerous decration so the number of decorated truck is decreasing..but still alive!
This is opening movie of original "Truck Yarou"
Also we can buy RC car of Dekotora in Japan:-D

Almost all trucks I saw in Japan had some form of chrome adornment, although obviously not quite to the level in HotWire's initial post. I'm guessing that the majority must be privately owned?

We get a lot of imported trucks with factory fitment "bright kits" even the littlest Isuzu's and so on have them.... nothing quite as extreme as the dekotora ones though!
