Well not really been updating this much have I! So have been tinkering away, but progress has been a bit slow, but looks like things are about to come together pretty quickly now. Have been held up by the fact that the flywheel needed machining - hadn't realised but seems that the DOHC motor needs a long input shaft because of the depth of the flyweel - two ways around this with a type 9 box, use a diesel gearbox or have the huge flywheel machined down a bit - I've gone for the latter and should be picking the flywheel back up tomorrow. Sadly that's meant it's not quite the low cost conversion I was hoping, but should be more than worth it (plus you wouldn't believe how much I got for the old crossflow). Now for things with photos. Have modified the auxiliary drive to remove the PAS pump so it's now just running the alternator and water pump with tension being done be the alternator. Have swapped the mid exhaust silencer to a larger one that should flow better - the old one seemed to be restricting the 1600 a fair bit, so it'd never have stood up to the flow of the 2 litre. It's all welded up and fitted now. Have stolen the injection tank from the 2.8i that's in the corner of the unit (have other engine/fueling plans there ) was a bit rusty when I started: and after a little elbow grease - I've had to patch up a couple of small holes where the pump fits (tipical Ford and their water traps!) so fingures crossed that holds ok.... And finally I've knocked up some engine side mount brackets, so hopefully I'll get the motor in and some mounts knocked up next week

Cheers bud So more slow progress, the fuel tank is dressed with a new pump and prefilter (not a standard part but I'm pretty sure some nasty curse word is going to come out so trying to stop the pump dying!). The engine is ready to go in, last bit was to beautify the cam cover and I've sorted out what might have been causing some of the vague steering feel didn't have much life left in it! Sadly the new rubber I bought didn't fit (I do love aftermarket old Ford parts....) So have stolen the one from the 2.8i as it looks pretty good. Hopefully the engine will go in the hole this weekend then just need to plumb up and get the loom spliced in

Well the engine is in the bay and the fuel tank is in. It fits! Woop Tomorrow I'll knock up some engine mounts and then it should be wiring and plumbing (sounds far easier than I bet it will be!)

Looks good, still enough space around the engine to work on it, although, hopefully won't need much tinkering with the EFI. Is there even anything to adjust with that system or is it effectively a "fit and forget" job??

There are a few things you can do to the, but as this car is all about cruising it should be good as it is

Nice engine choice and good scope for improvement with a 16v version should the want take you! Cheers, hopefully this should be enough to keep Lauren happy power wise, but like you say there's always the 16V option So the engine is now mounted to the car. Mounts aren't anything special, but they're nice and strong (made from 3 & 4mm plate and thick walled CDS tube) I nearly set about using the stock crossflow mounts as they we're far off a bad starting point, but in the end it was just easier to make new ones. The engine actually seems to sit a good way back in the bay, so apart from being top heavy compared to the xflow, hopefully the handling won't have been degraded too much.

Good work. Will be perfect in this application. Decent enough power and torque for everyday use. Plus I've read reports of people getting really good MPG out of these lumps. 40mpg doesn't seem to be a problem on a run. Guess that may depend on axle ratio though.
How much needs to be machined from the flywheel to attatch to a standard type 9 and what clutch have you used?

Have taken 9mm off, but if I did it again I'd try get away with 8 I think, just to not thin it too much. Heard of some taking 10mm out, but seems a bit much to me. Clutch wise it's the standard DOHC clutch, so could use the standard fixing positions, though tapped deeper because of the machining

So a question. We've finally found a set of wheels we both like - they're basically a cheap replica of a BBS Turbo Fan So should we do it? Vote away

Fair point 15x8, 4x100 fitment (as are the current ones - its running adapters) and ET25 offset, which is basically the same as the current wheels, so with the extra inch width the arches will be very full (may need a trim up front)
