I just booked my DAFs MOT for wednesday which may be a little premature as technically she is not actually running yet ;D
She will run and drive happily provided a jerry can of unleaded is placed under the bonnet and the fuel pump feeds from it. However she wont run on her own tank.
I know the pump works as it will pull from a jerry can, and has just had a rebuild kit fitted.
The fuel lines aren't blocked as when I suck on the lines I get a gob full of unleaded.
So any ideas why the pump wont pull fuel through the lines. My thought is a slight air leak.

Certainlly worth checking as the carb and fuel pump where all full of glazed petrol and both had to be rebuilt. It stands to reason that the same could be true for other parts of the fuel system. I will be dropping the tank tomorrow to do some welding that is within about 1/2 an inch of the tank. I really don't fancy doing that with it in situ. lol

Take the sender unit out of the tank (I'm assuming it has one...) and make sure the end hasn't fallen off the pickup pipe. I had a cortina that wouldn't run unless there was at least 3 gallons in the tank because of this.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Problem solved I tried to take the sender unit out but couldn't as all 5 phillips screws that hold it in place were mullered. But it appears that wasn't the problem. I dropped the tank out to do the welding and guess what it was flippin empty. Que some mild chuckling and embarasment. So chucked a can of go juice in her and found out why she was empty. One of the joints between solid and flexible fuel line was dripping. Stuck a jubilee clip on and stopped the leak but she still wouldn't pump. So I pulled the sealed fuel filter off and put the triumphs nice glass one in its place. Problem solved she now floods herself from her own tank. (Ok I admit it I poured way to much fuel down her throat to try and save the dying battery some work.)
