ok so I'm going to move the battery to the boot. i have thoughts of using welding cable and fittings so i was going to put a female dinse on the bulkhead plug in my length of cable with a male dinse and then clamping to battery but I'm unsure of size of cable the welding suppliers do
16mm,25mm,35mm,50,75mm
in regards to fusing one at the bulkhead end and the other on the battery?

it's not the holes that are rotten it's the metal around them

So what exactly are you asking? cable is measured in mm squared, so your likely to use at least 25mm square cable, you can buy that reasonably cheaply on ebay welding flex is much more expensive than battery cable, as it uses much finer strands, and needs to be more flexable, I don't know why you would use dinse connectors, normally you would fit the positive cable to a cut off switch or quick removable battery connector, and use battery connection at the battery, then a large crimp on ring at the other end, which is fitted to where the battery lead was connected to! earth cable is just connected to the body through a good clean connection then make sure the earth straps to the engine are good!
