Hi, I'm looking for some guidance on turbo charging a Rover V8. I've always like the idea of a twin turbos setup and I'm just trying to get my head around the costs. At the moment I'd be looking at using a standard EFI 3.9 with low compression pistons reducing it to 8.13:1. Would this be in the realms for turbo charging? Then would it be a case of Megasquirt ECU, different injectors, couple of Subaru turbos, couple of air flow sensors and then using the standard dizzy and fabricate two exhaust manifolds. Was planing on simply modifying the intake like this: I know this might not be the best idea and probably should just buy an engine that is already turbo charged but building something is allot of the fun for me as is learning new stuff along the way. Cheers, C

If you're running megasquirt, go for a version 2 (Megasquirt II) and run the ignition from it too - ignition control is crucial with boost.
Also, you don't have to drop the CR that much. Standard RR CRs of ~9:1 will work better off boost, and with decent management will still allow a lot of boost.
Beyond that - and mentioning that decent intercooling is essential - I don't have much to offer.

How much boost are you planning on running?
7psi would work fine with a standard CR, assuming proper ignition control and intercooling.
Don't use MAF's, use MAPS with a 'Squirt.
That should get you 250hp ish.

Janspeed used to do a twin turbo conversion on the SD1's. You may find some helpful (or not so helpful) info by searching for that? A quick google brings this up www.roversd1.nl/sd1web/jspeed.html

What car is it for? In a closed engine bay you might struggle for room Rovers are very wide.

I believe it's for a 'B . I have seen a Janspeed kit on an MGB before (I may have taken photos but I shall see if they can be dug out) although there was not much left of the inner wings!

Brilliant guys! Thanks for all the advice and those pictures are a real help. MGBV8 Twin Turbo does sound good! Space is not to much of an issue in relation to the width as I'm pretty handy 'cough' with an angle grinder. I suppose however getting a decent sized intercooler in there might be an issue. Any idea what kind of size would I need? How much boost is not something I really had considered and not something I know much about. I was thinking of using second hand stock WRX turbos to start with but that was just that they seem to be about the right size but maybe some S15 turbos for the SR20DET would be better.

There was a twin turbo MGB GT v8 featured in PPC MAg a few years back. If I remember correctly it was flat black. The owner had some problem with burnt pistons iirc. I've been wondering if fitting one or two turbos in the space for the battery boxes would work in an MGB

You need to work out the air flow requirements of your engine, then look at turbo pressure charts to work out which will give the best match. Have a look at ray hall turbo charging - they have some useful apps to work out which turbos will work for you. www.turbofast.com.au/javacalc.html
