Hi All,
Just a quick one before I attempt to remove the joint, when you split the joint, is it a circlip? Or some other retaining mechanism?
I have got to fit a new boot, but the fitting cone I have is in storage 50 miles away, and nobody else I know seems to have one. Removing the joint seems to be the only option unless anyone else has any ideas???
As always, Thanks guys.

From memory, I think it's a circlip. I had to do the same job on a Mk3 me and my brother had for a bit. Don't do what I did though, and accidentally pull the driveshaft out of the gearbox. I only noticed when I felt gear oil going down my neck! ;D
I've never heard of a fitting cone - that sounds like a handy tool!

You can buy them with the boot on ebay, but the boot for mine said to use a Duragun - whatever that is! The cone, you just grease up and slide the boot over. Real easy, but I cant be bothered driving 50 miles to pick mine up. Quicker to just strip the joint off. Thanks anyway.
