So I went to see Wes Anderson's new film 'Moonrise Kingdom' last night with my girlfriend and it was actually pretty excellent, if a little twee and kitsche. HOWEVER, it fell down on one tiny car based factor! The film is set in 1965, and in one crucial scene lightning stikes a church steeple, which then falls and crushes a VW Beetle. This is the scene - AARGH! So as I said the film is based in '65 but this beetle could not have been made before 1971! I.e. Upright lamps came in late '67 as we all know, and those half moon vents behind the rear passenger windows were introduced in 1971!! AAAAARGH! I informed my girlfriend of this glaring error and she told me to p.iss off and get a life. I know I'm a total sad case and no one cares, but I had to vent this somewhere. Thankyou. I'm now writing a letter to Wes Anderson...

in one crucial scene lightning stikes a church steeple, I guess in that case that Marty McFly had managed to pick one up from the future then. (OK, so that was the town hall I think. Shoot me!)

In the film invictus(1995 rugby world cup based) there is a scene where the rugby team run past a Hyandai getz(i think) with an 03 registered plate. shame on them.

What annoys me in films/TV is when filming a car journey. I always seem to notice when the car is arriving at its destination 'mist' is still coming out of the exhaust because really it was started up 1 min before that take. Come on film makers get the continuity right!!
Is that nerdy to spot??

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

What errors are in quadraphenia? Just so I can look out for it In Cemetary Junction (set in the 70s) there is a red mini with 12" minilights and wide repeaters in the wings. The badge is too modern too. Apparently on Ben Hur you can see a Beetle driving over a mountain. I've not seen it though

Odometer in Back to the Future goes backwards then forwards then back again!
I am still trying to find out more information about the RWD Minis in The Italian Job. Before the raid one is jacked up at the rear, guy rolls out from under it and tells Michael Kaine that he is checking the diff!
Again, my wife just gives me that roll of the eyes whenever I spot something.

Was on set of "Inspector George Gently" last year when I pointed out to the guy supplying the cars that the `65 MGB convertible should not have Rostyle wheels. He argued the point but....... I`ll get my coat on.
