	I'm in need of a slide hammer However the cheap one i bought originally was useless. Made from mickey mouse metal and one hard bang and the threads on it were stripped and one of the fittings broke. Something very much like this one www.ebay.co.uk/itm/9PC-HEAVY-DUTY-DENT-PULLER-SLIDE-HAMMER-KIT-CAR-AUTO-BODY-SHOP-REPAIR-TOOL-/330736118237?pt=UK_Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item4d0168a9dd I know they are reasonably easy to make, but trying to source suitable material/fittings and the time are all against me at the moment so I'm going to have to buy one. Does anyone have any recommendations as to one that is going to withstand a bit of abuse? 	The ones you linked will be "Made in China" so quality will be unknown. If you want one urgently go to Halfords or Machine Mart etc so even if Chinese you will be able to take it back if it breaks. For quality then stop your local Snap-On van and such other quality manufactures but be prepared to pay a fortune. Personally I'd just buy the cheapest as I reckon most of the lower end of the market are all the same but there again I'm tight :-) Paul H

	the problem is i already bought the cheapest one and it was useless it just broke with a couple of bangs, the metal was really weak and the threads stripped and some of the fitting bust as well. Theres got to be a "middle range" surely that are going to withstand a bit of punishment I'm also tight

	I'd say anything with a name you recognise, draper, sealey, halfords ect. As said above, if you buy one over the counter them at least you can take it back if it breaks.

	I bought a silverline one for about the same price, which I haven't broken yet. Admittedly I've never got that rough with it, but it seems good quality. What are you using yours for? I guess more than pulling a few dents in car panels? If nothing else you could get a bit of threaded bar and use the weight from your old slide hammer.

	Silverline stuff is pretty cheap - but still pretty good quality AFAIK, Hellfrauds don't make/sell a slide hammer If it's just the thread that's stripped - why not weld a bolt to the end of the duff one?
