With me being the forgetful type I always have trouble remembering when the fleet needs bits and pieces replacing (compounded by the fact I have a few to look after). MOT/Tax/Insurance is easy enough as they get marked on the calendar, plus they all have the Sunday afternoon once over to keep on top of emergent issues. It's the regular servicing type stuff that I struggle with My current system is to keep a notebook for each car and note down when parts are replaced. Problem is it relies on me looking in the book for each car to remind myself when the filters/sparks/oil needs replacing. Just wondered what other people do to see if there's a better way of organising myself

Some days you just need to take a grinder to an inanimate object, just to make your day a tiny bit better!!

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I simply make the car model on my phone as the contact, then the mileage, when the filter and oil etc was last changed, then by simply bringing up merc or cortina i know when its due, can also store the parts used last time in the text under drafts, as phone is always with me,takes 2 seconds to check!

google calendar is good for MOT, insurance etc. Especially if you have an Android phone which will give you the reminders. iPhone will, sort of. But its crappy.
A sticker under the bonnet or in the door shut is best for mileage related stuff. Just get a roll of blank address labels or something.
I used to do all mine together with the seasons when I was (a) organised (b) had several cars on the road. (c) used to keep my cars more than one season...

Tippex on the cam cover for timing belt changes...Masking tape with mileage on for oil and if it had a filter this time or not.
Don't know if its just me but air filters seem to last a lot longer than they used to - i remember blowing them out at every service and getting loads of curse word out, just doesn't seem to happen anymore...

I'm not sure about what oil you buy, but 5 litre oil bottles usually come with a sticker on the label that you can peel off, with sections for writing date and mileage. I stick these on the top inside corner of the windscreen on the driver's side, like workshops do. When I have a 20 litre drum of oil I just remember the next service, because I have a pretty good memory for that kind of stuff.
I only do mine according to mileage, not time, because when I'm studying at uni I don't drive very much, so I only do a service about once a year. Last year I was working and commuting big mileage, so I was doing oil and filter changes every 6-8 weeks!

I print service sheets like a garage invoice everytime I do a job on my own cars. Then I know the exact date it was done and exactly what was done, and as a bonus I have something to put in the cars history file to show it has been looked after and not just ignored should I decide to sell it.

I used to keep a notebook that said what I'd done, what I'd replaced in doing it, part numbers included if I bought from Halfords to save having to cross reference stuff again.. and when it would need doing again for my Herald.
The Fiesta, if servicing with a complete new 5l bottle of oil, would use up exactly the remainder in the bottle from the first fill between then and when it was next due. Cunning.
I now mostly scribble stuff in Sharpie wherever there's a free space under the bonnet but will probably use a notebook again for the Standard as servicing is more than just oil and filter changes.

Thanks mate, that looks like an interesting program. I've downloaded it and entered my cars in. It certainly has a lot of capabilities! The part I like is the ability to take notes and record the car's history. I'm sure the mileage calculator would be useful for businesses, but a bit over the top for the average individual.

Oh, and I should've mentioned this already. When I said that I remember the next service, that's easy because I do them at even numbers on the odometer. So, to do an oil change every 5000km, I just watch the odometer and do it whenever I come up to a multiple of 5000km or 10000km.
