Just found a rusty can of this in my garage - I remember years ago catching me, my mate, and my engine on fire for about 10 seconds followed by a smell you had to run away from ....
It never worked for me, My mate calls it the equivalent of a 'poke' on facebook ....
This and radex were the bodge-up tools of choice for me, the budding car mechanic - Made me look like I knew what I was doing but neve quite worked ....
This, and holts GUN GUM were quite simply aimed at fools like me at the time - Did they work for anyone?

Works ok for me, usually to get out of a stale petrol situation, gun gum has its place sealing exhaust flanges etc just gets a bad name when its used to seal bits of tin can jubilee clipped around the exhaust....

I use it a fair amount. Its pretty good for starting stuff which has been sat a while where you are too lazy to manually prime the carb float bowls and its kinder on the bores etc. than cold cranking over and over to draw fuel forward.
The one I have at the moment is called "You startin' something?"
My garage tells me that brake cleaner can be used to the same trick although I never tried it.
Carb cleaner works moderately well. As does paint thinners or any flammable material really... Some will damage seals and floats though...

I keep a can in the recovery truck, brilliant for getting tired diesels going or ones with weak glow plugs. Not so useful on petrols Ive found. Gun gum is great for sealing up joints on exhausts. never had a problem tbh!

I've used similar tricks before to good effect;
We camped at the Renault World Series a few years ago, and in the morning, having a barbecue, we watch a group of lads attempting a to bump start a 405, this goes on for a few minutes, interspersed with the driver spinning the engine over on the starter. They could have bumped that thing all day, but that would never have got it going!
We stripped the air filter housing off, but the owner's wd40 didn't have a enough propellant in it to make it cough, so in the end we got the car started on Lynx Africa...

FYI brake cleaner works a treat, started everything from chainsaws to Trans-am's with it!

The Internet, like all tools, if used improperly, can make a complete bo**cks of even the simplest jobs...

Lynx is brilliant. Without it, getting this Mini engine (not started for over 20 years) would have been a lot, lot harder. Liberal doses of the deodorant were used to get it started before the fuel from the temporary tank (loving modelled by Colon the Elk) came into play. You can just make out the can nestled in between all the beer (also essential in any mechanical situation) on the offside wing. 4am engine revivals with the Lynx effect is where it's at!

Nitro methane for me (model RC car fuel) A little stronger than braddex or lynx - sure does get the party started. Had a Yammy RXS100 engine self igniting - ignition was off, removed the plug lead and she was still going for it! Oh and there wasn't an exhaust on her either!

Got a BFO Strimmer started with some sort of bug-removal spray last weekend. I also got a lawnmower going by spraying Back to Black (I think) into the carb.
And one I learned when I was a teenager - never squirt Ronson lighter fuel into the air intake of an RD 250.

I just pour a dribble of fresh petrol down the carb throat and crank her over if mines been left long. Do that and it never takes more than 5 seconds to cough or fire.

I've not used deoderant to start a motor, but I did start my old donor Kadett coupe on some old aftershave the previous owner left in the centre console

I got my TA22 started on the first try after 27 years of not running with bradex. Hooked a battery up, fired bradex down the carbs, coughed into life.
I'll try and upload the video of it!
