If your going for a 15x6" wheel 195/50/15 are the tyres to go for, I had them on minilights and they never rubbed so you don't need to touch the rear arches, Rota do loads of 4x114.3 wheels, you could go up to 15x7 with the same tyre without any problems, Ive got 15x8's with 195/50/15's on the back and 195/45/15's on the front Ive bent the flange up and pulled the arch out slightly, I'm going to make a panhard rod to limit the axle moving sideways, pic... ![](http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd494/monty400k/019.jpg)

Look out for Saab/J wheels with a 4x114.3mm PCD. Plenty of choice. I went that way, and it 'sort of' worked. You can fit 185/65R15s with no trimming necessary or 195/60R15s but by losing the flange within in the arch (or at least on the Nearside). As a leftfield choice you could always fit Lotus Excel/Eclat wheels. OK they are 14" but you could use your old tyres and get a slight amount of stretch in the mix Ahh yes, there were some saab wheels that kind of looked like bbs' which I did like, think they were early 900 turbo alloys or something.. Ive been going to and fro between 14's and 15's and tbh I don't think id mind either really, though the wheels ive been looking at closely are 14's and I think they could work, they're 14x6 et 20 with 195/60 tyres.. so after a few checks on willtheyfit, it seems like I may be ok, its handy to see what tyres sizes have been run on mgbs and I know the rear axles can be a pain ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) Edit: Oh and i did look at the excel/eclat wheels after seeing a couple of sets pop up on here but I'm not quite sure if the style of them works for me really If your going for a 15x6" wheel 195/50/15 are the tyres to go for, I had them on minilights and they never rubbed so you don't need to touch the rear arches, Rota do loads of 4x114.3 wheels, you could go up to 15x7 with the same tyre without any problems, Ive got 15x8's with 195/50/15's on the back and 195/45/15's on the front Ive bent the flange up and pulled the arch out slightly, I'm going to make a panhard rod to limit the axle moving sideways, pic... thanks for the pic there, I did think that looked nice when I saw it before, the profile of the tyres makes it look like you'd have to go quite low to fill the arches properly? the wheel size you mention is probably a fair bit bigger than what I'm planning to fit (at the moment) so that makes me think ill be ok without modifying the arches, but out of interest, was there a particular way you modded the arches? or just a big hammer? ;D

It would also alter the gearing slightly, making motorway trips more fun ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) (I remember driving my 'B when the OD decided not to work. 4000RPM at 65MPH was not fun ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) .

Handbrakes on MGBs are notoriously poor. I'd check the bracket on the diff housing first to see if it actually works for both sides. My rear brakes became poor after the oil seal in the axle got worn and started leaking oil into the brake drum. Good luck ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Good shout, ill be having a look at that as well as adjusting the rear brakes anyway as i think they're overdue a bit of adjustment. The last owner of the car bought a brand new handbrake cable but never fitted it, so i've got that to fit if it comes to it ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Reason he never fitted it was due to them being a bit an A**e. Rear hangers are an easy fix if you have access to a welder, the first year I MOT'd mine if failed on these and it was just due to suface rust!
Your handbrake should be different to the Rubber B type, which is better to adjust. Check the rod's as the holes do tend to wear oval (OK wont cause too much of an issue, but will make 1 notch extra on the brake).
The rear adjusters are a pig as they usually rust solid, if your are then getting yourself one of the Adjuster spanners helps no end. Remove them, stick some copper grease on the thread etc.
For the MOT I always wind them in a little bit extra, then back them off once passed. I was fed up of the handbrake being fine for road use, but being just a little off come MOT time.

haha well that would make sense, its always easier to sell a car with some new parts rather than actually fitting them i suppose ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) (got a new clutch slave cylinder thrown in with the car as well....) Aye i think the brake adjusters could be a pain, all the tutorials ive read/watched seem to make it sound so easy.. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) time will tell, need to find a good place to jack the car up first really Welding is something id love to learn to save me some money in the long term, but I'm pretty confident that the garage it'll be off to will sort the welding for a decent price ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) The interesting thing is how the rust that was mentioned as an advisory on the last mot (on one of the chassis rails i think) didnt even come up this time....

That's not great, but it's not terrible either.

I plan to chop a few coils out of the front springs to lower it, its sitting at standard ride height in the picture, hopefully that will help the tyre fit the arch better. I 'rolled' the arch by filling the boot full of slabs then moving the car back and forth with a piece of scaffold pipe between the body and tyres, it gradually folded the flange up and pulled the arch out, the wheels clear now but as I said it will need a panhard rod to stop the moving sideways... Bad luck with the MOT, the rear hangers took mine off the road about 5 years ago, had to remove the tank which fell apart, as did the boot floor, 12 months and a lot of welding later I got it back on the road!

Yeah, hopefully it should fly through once the repairs are done ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) and a welder is certainly on my want list ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) I plan to chop a few coils out of the front springs to lower it, its sitting at standard ride height in the picture, hopefully that will help the tyre fit the arch better. Looks good mate. Thanks for sharing. My wife used to have a BGT. It was a good fun car. It was a great day when we found the over drive switch !! Have you heard of an organisation called Moss? www.moss-europe.co.uk/They offer MG parts at a very good price and have outlets all over the UK. Just a thought...

Yeah I've used moss a couple of times, I've found them to be a bit pricier than other MG parts suppliers if I'm honest but their range is very extensive! So I tend to use their site mostly as a reference but I end up there if I can't find something anywhere else ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Hope the repairs don't come in too pricey! I have just lowered my rubber bumper so I will get some pictures up of the car when it settles down a bit. The rear is actually higher than before at the moment because the old springs were so knackered ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
