Yeah it will get done, as i have to vanquish the demons of scrapping the first one. But i cant promise its going to be quick! You weren't kidding ! Home stretch now ? Haha yes forgotten I had written that. Definitely the home stretch and mostly clean fun jobs with the added paranoia of scratching the paint.

Minor update. Work has slowed on this as ive been busy working on my 827 and doing lots of welding to get it through an MoT. The next step on the Police car is to fit the brake servo to the bulkhead. I have the original, but its very rusty. My other spare also looks a bit suspect, so i thought i would buy a new one. It arrived last week and i was looking forward to fitting it this bank holiday weekend, but when i opened the package, it was also rusty! Not happy as it was £100 and meant to be new. I don't mind surface rust on the outside, as i was planning on painting it shiny gloss black, but this was rusty inside! SO i have sent it back and am awaiting a replacement. I did have another stunning ebay result. A new oldstock SD1 specific front Police sign. SO now i have front and rear, i just need to borrow the moulds and get the spoilers/boxes made up in GRP.

I don't know if this image is of any interest to you being an earlier car, but I just came across it in a book I was reading with my daughter and thought of this thread.

It's only a tiny image, it's in a 1991 edition of Michelin I-Spy trucks and Working vehicles. Thats what every parent should be reading with their sub 2 yr old right?

When this car makes it to it's first show, put up details of where it will be because I'm dying to see it in the flesh, and I bet I'm not the only one. It's a cracker of a restoration.

Spent most of Saturday welding up the nearside rear wheel arch on my 800 but spend a couple of hours on the Police car today. My replacement servo arrived. It has a few scrapes and rusty bits bit not as bad as the first one they sent me. Couldnt be bothered to send this one back again, so i polished it up with compound and touched in some of the worst scrapes with gloss black and a paint brush. I have a new master cylinder, but there was a patch of surface rust on one area of an otherwise nice shiny anodised part. So i wire brushed off the rust and then put a dusting of silver/gold paint on it. The paint was actually a can i had mixed up at Halfords ages ago when i was refurbing the lips of some alloy wheels that were a very pale shade of olive green metallic. Strange colour but looks really good. Fitted the bulkhead gasket and with more Butyl sealer then bolted it to the bulkhead. After that was in i turned my attention to the brake pipes and brake proportioning/balancing valve. I was happy to find only very minor corrosion to the metal pipes. They just need a light sanding and then a dust over in drab green paint to match the original. This will save ages of making up new pipes in copper and i think will look much more original. Rusty crappy balance valve, no longer available, so set about cleaning it up. Derusted More silver/gold/green paint Mounted on the inner wing below the servo and master cylinder

August 20th - 9am with "blues and twos" on before morning and afternoon session running up the hill - with it parked up in the paddock as a good example of unusual retro rides builds? Hey HoTWire?

Turned engine over today but standard car battery was too weedy to give it enough puff. Tomorrow we put the Godzilla truck battery on it. Watch the main thread
